Robin Williamson is an amazing and unique talent. When he tells stories, self-accompanied by harp, as on this album, he is one of those rare artists who can transport you to another world. In this case, that world is pre-Christian Ireland. Williamson is a consummate harper and brilliant storyteller in the ancient bardic tradition; I've never heard anyone else who so perfectly filled the role of "Bard" as described in the ancient legends.
Speaking of legends, the story related on this disc is part of the legend, or cycle of legends, of the original inhabitants of Ireland, and how they came to be displaced by later invaders. The Tuatha deDanaan are the race that later became known as the Sidhe, or faerie-folk. Williamson does a great job of relating portions of this complex story, with multiple larger-than-life characters, although the one-CD format is limiting and frustrating - you wish this could go on for hours.
Highly recommended. Better than the first CD in this series, because he doesn't sing as much.

The image and name of this cd (Carmina) does not match its contents, which is a description of the "Gems of Celtic Story 3". "Carmina" is a quite different project by Robin Williamson and his wife Bina.
