5.0 out of 5 stars Profound book and well explained material
Sandra Kynes'e book is an excellent, easy to read and complete review of gemstones. Sandra Kynes'e book is an excellent, easy to read and complete review of gemstones. However, I would like to add the following: I have a number of books about the basic principles and techniques of feng shui and many of them are confusing, misleading and incomplete. This book by name and topic was not supposed to provide a detailed info on feng shui, BUT IT DOES. It has logical, easy to follow yet complete description of feng shui principles. I truly enjoyed it and highly recommend to anyone interested in feng shui.

I only recently got into Feng Shui, but I have always collected various gemstones. It seems obvious that the two go together and this book demonstrates just so.
I highly recommend Gemstone Feng Shui, for anyone interested in creating a more harmonious environment.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Energy Connection, May 27, 2004
This review is from: Gemstone Feng Shui: Creating Harmony in Home & Office (More Crystals and New Age) (Paperback)
Energy connects everything in the universe and finding a way to use it so it works for you is so important. I was already using crystals around my home for their beneficial energy -- now I have some really good guidelines with this book. If you use crystals or do any kind of energy work, this system is for you.

I have used feng shui on and off for over a year, but I didn't always stick with it. When I saw this book I knew this was what would help me understand what I needed to do, and it has. This helped me see and understand feng shui from a perspective that made sense for me.

I like the detail and background information on gemstones and crystals.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fell flat to my expectations, December 17, 2009
This review is from: Gemstone Feng Shui: Creating Harmony in Home & Office (More Crystals and New Age) (Paperback)
Gemstones and feng shui; the marriage between the two isn't as apparent as it should be. However, stones and their energies are a perfect companion to the ancient Chinese practice. Sandra Kynes' book, Gemstone Feng Shui, explores this complex and interesting relationship. I imagined a whole system of feng shui that used gemstones to counter and support the natural feng shui energies. While the book has a wealth of information on how to use crystals in conjunction with traditional feng shui practices it fell short of my initial impression. Instead the book describes how to use the stones with alongside current feng shui practices.

The book has two parts. The first part introduces crystals, healing properties, feng shui basics and tools. It then goes into limited exploration of how to use gemstones in combination with feng shui. The book does a great job of introducing the basics of crystals. Ms. Kynes' gemstone-circle meditation is a great way to introduce new users of crystals and their energies to one another by placing them around a person. The book uses the 9 Square, or Lo Shu Grid to teach readers feng shui. The Lo Shu Grid divides a room up into squares instead of the more common practice of visualizing a room broken down into a circle with each direction representing a piece of the pie.

The second half of the book goes into the gemstones themselves. Over 100 pages are dedicated to explaining the history, lore, and energy properties of selected stones. This part of the book is worth its weight in gold. These tables and lists show readers new gemstone correspondences as they relate to the 5 traditional Chinese elements.

Gemstone Feng Shui falls short at teaching readers how to incorporate gemstones into daily feng shui practices. When it describes how to remove blocking or harmful energies it is done separately from gemstones. The two topics seem to have very little to do with each other. When they do interact, it is through descriptions of situations and their blocks and a few suggestions on how to counteract, harmonize or enhance aspects of this element. The book makes a series of statements rather than exploring the rationale behind how the stone's energies work to produce the desired feeling in a room. It quickly goes from element to element as well as showing how the colors of the stones or one's birthstone can also produce and affect feng shui energies.

Overall, this book is not for people new to crystal work or feng shui. Even with the introductory chapters on each topic, the book crams a large amount of study and history of both feng shui and crystals but doesn't do much to describe the marriage between the two. However, the time and energy spent on describing the stones and their energies make up for the lack of practical applications.

Attract fortune to your home through Gemstone Feng Shui, a title that links gemstones with feng shui. The details include plenty of description of all qualities and interactions.

I happened to pick this book up at my girlfriend's house just to see what feng shui was and became totally fascinated. I never suspected there was that much to know about gemstones, either. My girlfriend and I are both using feng shui with gemstones. Now I want to learn more!
