5.0 out of 5 stars Gen X by Tisha Kulak Tolar - Book Review September 9, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase
Tolar's debut fiction novel is a fast-paced, humorous story of a recent college graduate's journey from being a nobody in her blue-collar town to making it somewhere and becoming somebody in the entertainment business. The characters are well developed. You'll find yourself cringing at some of Gen's most embarrassing moments, laughing with her through the funny moments, and sympathizing over her hardships.

Gen X is not your standard "chick lit romance" - you know the kind, where a man and woman meet and it's love at first sight and everyone lives happily ever after following some really unrealistic moments? Instead, it's an entertaining novel with a somewhat surprising, yet believable storyline, that also happens to include details of some romantic relationships Gen is involved in.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great debut! September 25, 2009
Gen X is a humorous, fun paced debut novel by Tisha. I was easily lost in Gen's life from the first chapter. Her personality intrigued me and was drawn to her sense of humor. The only thing that annoyed me about her was she always had a cigarette in her hand and couldn't go a day without coffee. Eh I guess because I don't smoke and hate coffee, I didn't understand. *Shrugs* But, Tisha's writing style gave me a chance to get to know all the character's and grew to love most but loathe some. I really disliked her best friend Jared's agent Leila, one word to describe her rhymes with witch. I found myself rolling my eyes when I read her parts in the book, if she was real I'd seriously punch her in the face :) I don't want to give too much away since the story is captivating and I don't want to spoil any of the surprises! But, I must say I enjoyed taking an emotional roller coaster with Gen. There were times where I was really sad for her, but by the end of the book I said "awwwww" out loud. I have a feeling that their might be a second book because I'd love to see Gen's life take off in another place in her life. However, just to warn my young readers their is cursing and sexuality in this book. I do recommend it to those that are looking for a fun, emotional read that makes you giggle out loud but, also pout from sadness. My only negative thing would have to be that it wasn't longer! Go buy it, it's definitely worth it...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Balance September 10, 2009
Determined to do better than a standard 9 to 5 job, Gen is seeking life in the fast lane (and maybe just a little bit of fame) when she begins managing her best friends career in comedy. Her plans don't exactly work out as expected though, and almost as soon as she finds herself in the position of a big time talent manager in California - everything gets turned upside down and inside out and she's back at square one.

This book is well balanced with just enough humor, romance and reality that will keep you turning the pages and reading until you find out whether or not Gen overcomes her mistakes and the situations she finds herself in to live out her dreams.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for more.... September 9, 2009
As an avid reader I know within the first five minutes of starting a book whether I'm going to like it or not. GenX grabbed my interest from the first page and didn't let go..not even at the end. Unlike some books where you sometimes have to struggle to find a connection with the characters, Gen instantly felt like an old friend. Tolar is a gifted writer and hopefully this is not the last we have seen of her....or Gen!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tisha rocks! January 5, 2010

tisha tolar's first fiction novel was great! i have to say that what really caught my attention was the fact that it was believable, almost normal stuff that happpened to gen. she brings the reader on a rollercoaster ride of feelings and emotions and has you rooting for her from the get-go. the whirlwind of events keeps you turning the pages to find out what could possibly happen next. it will make you want to laugh (i actually burst out laughing at work and had all of my coworkers and some clients staring at me wanting to know what was wrong with me im sure!) it will also make you want to cry and it will most definitely make you want to kick some butt. the characters and pretty well developed but i cant wait to see what life brings them next! i definitely look forward to watching gen grow!

5.0 out of 5 stars CANT PUT IT DOWN December 30, 2009
First off I want to let you know that I am a guy and I dont read most things unless it has "ball" in the title somewhere. But I must say I bought the book in September and I have read the book 3 full times and I think it gets better each time. I truly feel engaged by the story each time I read it. As a guy perspective I didnt know what to expect, but it is really well written and entertaining. I am waiting to read follow up work form her.

Great Job Tish.......

5.0 out of 5 stars Addicting December 6, 2009
This is a great fiction novel! I am a college student who barely has time to read anything outside of her textbooks, however, once I picked up this book I could not put it down. I felt like I was really Gen throughout the book. Many times I had to stop and remind myself I was not the character in the book. Tisha does a great job portraying the characters emotions and actions to think they are your own. I recommend this book to any one that is interested in a great read!
