Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The GenTran 30 Amp 8-circuit transfer switch for up to 7,500-watt generators includes everything you'll need to install a generator transfer switch for safe, convenient portable generator hookup. This kit includes a prewired 8-circuit transfer switch, a 25-foot power cord and a power inlet box enclosure. Power up your essential circuits using a 5,000-watt generator (continuous watts) during a power outage or emergency. It accommodates 8-to-10 household circuits like your furnace blower (gas only), refrigerator and kitchen circuits, well pump, lights, and television. If your needs change, your installer can easily expand this transfer switch to up to ten circuits just by adding more circuit breakers. The enclosure can be surface mounted indoors, and allows hardwired or plug-in generator connections. Because it was designed with off-the-shelf circuit breakers you don't have to search high and low for replacements, and your installer can reconfigure the breaker combinations to suit your family's needs.

This transfer switch has a L14-30 male power inlet and a dual watt meters to help you balance generator loads to prolong generator life. The kit comes with two 15 Amp 1-pole breakers, two 20 Amp 1-pole breakers, one 2-pole 20 Amp breaker, and one 2-pole 30 Amp breaker. A 60 Amp 2-pole main breaker is required in existing load center (not included). This kit comes with a 2-year limited warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars GenTran Response, June 5, 2008
This review is from: GenTran 3028 30 Amp 8-Circuit Transfer Switch/Power Inlet Box/Power Cord Kit For Up To 7,500-Watt Generators (Lawn & Patio)
I'd like to address the comment made about our 3028K kit. We always recommend professional installation by a licensed electrician familiar with local and national codes, and familiar with portable generators. We include a power inlet box enclosure in this kit package in order to save the consumer money. We include a power inlet mounted in the transfer switch when plug-in connection is desired, as in a garage installation. But when the transfer switch is hardwired, as in a basement installation, the inlet is not needed, and can be removed. A professional installer would remove the inlet from the transfer switch and reinstall it in the power inlet enclosure...So you're not paying for the inlet twice. That was our reasoning behind the decision - to save the consumer from paying for the same component in the kit twice. We stand behind our products 100%, and we apologize that the information you received was misleading.

My adult son and I recently purchased large gas generators and when attaching them to our homes the electrician recommended this product. We ordered thru Amazon and the items arrived sooner then expected. my transfer switch was installed and worked perfectly, my sons had a circuit switch stuck open on his and notified the company and they made it good

4.0 out of 5 stars Did the job, April 8, 2009
This review is from: GenTran 3028 30 Amp 8-Circuit Transfer Switch/Power Inlet Box/Power Cord Kit For Up To 7,500-Watt Generators (Lawn & Patio)
Everything was great with this transfer switch except if you have to change out the breakers and put in more on the left leg side. You have to get more wire to do that. The problem is the tube that comes out of it which goes to the main fits just right with the wires they gave but is too tight to sqeeze 2 more 14gauge wires in it. I had to cut off the plastic end for the wires to make it through. They give you 2 20A breakers on the left and I needed 3 15A and 1 20A breaker in replace of those. So I bought a 15/15 and a 15/20 breaker then added two extra wires. They don't tell you what breakers you will get with it so I had to wait until I received it to plan on what breakers I would need to buy. It had 2 30A double breakers (one double for the generator and one for something else like your hot water heater)on the right side, 2 20A singles on the right, and 2 15A singles on the right. These were two quad breakers- one has 2-15A and a Double 30A. The other is a 2-20A and a Double 30A. On the left they had 2 Single 1" 20A breakers. I removed those and put in 2 doubles noted above. Overall I was pleased with it. The option to take the outlet out of the box so that I could run it up to my garage was nice. Just had to buy the 10AWG cable.
