Book Description

August 29, 1994
The problems sometimes experienced by men or women working for bosses of the other sex - or alongside them as colleagues - are well-known. This book explains why the different communication styles of men and women lead to misunderstanding and conflict, and how to deal with these conflicts. Using everyday scenarios, the author shows both men and women how to: learn a wide range of relevant communication techniques (both direct and indirect); develop a flexible, open-minded attitude towards each other; effectively deliver and receive interpersonal feedback; avoid or prevent sexual harassment; and maximize career prospects by getting along with both sexes.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Women and men can address the chronic conflicts and misunderstandings that occur in their communications without losing their individual strength. We communicate differently, for many reasons. But we do have to work together. It would be nice if it were a two-way street. However, the work environment is still basically a masculine one. So women, especially, need to learn how to understand and respond more effectively to the male-dominated communication patterns of the workplace.

4.0 out of 5 stars How men and women can adapt their communication styles, June 15, 1998
This review is from: Genderflex(TM): Men & Women Speaking Each Other's Language at Work (Hardcover)
A psychologist who leads frequent workshops on the material of her book, Dr. Tingley encourages women to do active listening, and to speak more like men (and men to speak more like women) to improve their communications with the opposite sex. Communicating adaptively is one way, the author states, to end the workplace war of the sexes.

4.0 out of 5 stars A workable, memorable approach to adaptive communication., October 11, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Genderflex(TM): Men & Women Speaking Each Other's Language at Work (Hardcover)
The book gives a pragmatic, easy-to-remember approach to the communication problems that continue to hamper male-female communication in the workplace. It is written with clarity of ideas, and with enough humor to make it enjoyable reading. This a standout among the books on communication that belong in a workplace library.
