5.0 out of 5 stars Unearthing the obvious for the oblivious, December 17, 2001

This review is from: The Genealogy of Demons: Anti-Semitism, Fascism, and the Myths of Ezra Pound (Hardcover)
This is one of the more useful books in assessing the poet Pound's memetic fascination with the ideals and ideograms of Italian-style fascism. To assess the beauty to be found in Pound's work without going the extra mile to understand the constellation of virtues, misapprehensions, and outright blandishments that led Pound to remain in Italy during WWII and endorse the Mussolini regime is to fail to understand what could make a decent, generous man confuse the "light of Eleusis" with the krieg lights of artistic freedom's enemies. For the Pound scholar, to fail to study the memetics of Pound's poetics is to be little more than an apologist for Pound's mistakes, thus making appreciation of his deepest gifts to culture naive and superficial.

This review is from: The Genealogy of Demons: Anti-Semitism, Fascism, and the Myths of Ezra Pound (Hardcover)
This is directed at the reviewer who gave this book one star and called the author naive. You should be advised that in this benighted era, whose culture feeling is largely defined by the likes of you, that there are small groups of widely aware and educated people who do define a standard, and in whose eyes, you make yourself seem silly in your feeble attempt to denigrate Dr. Casillo. Your recent review of The Genealogy of Demons showed a phenomenal insensitivity to the subject (of Pound), incidentally you reveal your lack of qualifications for writing about Pound and Dr. Casillo's book.
Dr. Casillo is a Pound scholar, as well as a Dante scholar and it should be noted that his acheivments in the world of Academia are much more important than yours. His standing in the intellectual world is a good deal higher than yours will ever be, and as for its present status, it is positively zero. You should refrain from making judgements on subjects you obviously know nothing about, as well as making false claims about the book. I have read it a number of times, and it is more than clear that Dr. Casillo reveals the meaning behind each of the symbols used in the book. I have one question for you...how can you malign a man who has memorized all the Cantos in their entirety? You know nothing on the subject and you should not be allowed to voice your unresearched opinion anywhere, for you are so offensive to those who have knowledge of this area of study.
