3.0 out of 5 stars Generac 5622 GP5000 generator
Filled the crankcase with the provided motor oil, and the unit started on the second or third attempt. Seemed to run well for aproximately ten minutes and I shut it down. Purchased it for power outages, and haven't had to use it since it was delivered. Appears to be well built. Time will tell.

I bought a different brand but similar sized generator at a local store. I bought that generator as a closeout model thinking I found a great bargin.

The problem with this overseas-made generator was that fuel poured out where the carburator mated to the engine. I suspect it lacked a gasket, but it went back to the store pronto as I wasn't going to deal with it.

The Generac GP5000 is solidly built and well made. It just has a solid build feel to it without being unnecessarily heavy or bulky. The engine started up right away and ran fine. It was a shade louder than I anticipated but certainly nothing unusual or obnoxious. I like the fact that Generac designs their alternators and engines specifically to work together and they are not two independent units designed by different manufacturers and simply slapped together.

If you are running electronic equipment off this generator, or most any other generator, you will risk damage to that equipment as this generator, like others, does not produce a clean enough energy wave. So you may wish to consider some type of voltage regulation if you plan on running sensitive equipment for extended periods. Generac makes pure sine wave portable generators called their "XP Series" for running sensitive electronics, but be prepared to pay a premium for these models.

All-in-all, a good, solid, American-made generator that I hope to have around for a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than a troy bilt, February 2, 2009
This review is from: Generac 5622 GP5000 6,250 Watt 389cc OHV Portable Gas Powered Generator (Lawn & Patio)
The best I can tell Generac = Guardian = Centurion. So this review is actually based on the Centurion equivalent of this generator purchased at Lowes. The Generac unit here appears to be a step nicer than the one for sale at the big box stores.

My limited experience with portable generators is based on this one and a 5000W troy-bilt generator that we owned before it broke. The Troy-Bilt generator siezed after less than 20 hours of operation in near ideal conditions. It was filled with clean oil, operating on a flat surface, around a 1500W load. Failing so early is suggests a manufacturing defect combined with poor luck. Regardless of the failure of the Troy-Bilt, the Centurion/Generac generator is far superior in nearly every manner.

The generator feels about 20 lbs heavier than the Troy-Bilt model.

It runs relatively quietly for the engine size. As expected, the engine starts easily using the pull start.

The oilpan is deeper (and probably larger capacity) than the Troy-Bilt making it less likely to oil-starve the engine if it is not perfectly flat.

The front-leg of the generator is about 2"x8" in size keeping it from vibrating into moist ground.

The locking handles are long enough to make moving it around easy.

The outlets are overload protected on the unit. However there is no electric on/off switch on the unit which I found convenient on the Troy-Bilt.

The fill hole for the metal gas tank is located close to the side so that it fills without a funnel from a standard 5-gallon gas can.

Also from quick research it appears that this unit can readily be converted to run on natural gas/propane.

I've been happy and impressed with it in the short time that I've used it, and as an added bonus it's built almost entirely in the US. It's worth that extra money.

Purchased to run an outdoor concession stand for football games. Performed very well.
It's a little loud, but ran great at full load for 6 hour stretches throughout the season.
No complaints

Love this generator! Definitely gives my wife and I peace of mind owning one. Does it's job! We shopped for quite some time looking for a deal. Amazon was the best deal we found. We are happy!

I live in an area where the power goes out a lot and this thing comes in handy a lot. I've got it hooked up to my whole house and it handles everything (with exception of electric heat, A/C, or water heater). But if you have natural gas appliances then your good. I got this about a year ago and the only problem I have had is sometimes I gotta pull the starter cord 10-15 times to get it to start.

Purchased this item the day before Hurricane Irene since all box store shelves here at the NJ shore were empty and it looked like a CAT 2 was headed straight for us. Amazon Prime was GREAT and item was delivered 3 days later. It is now 5 full days after the storm and we still have no power. This generator is supporting 2 refrigerators, 1 large freezer, 2 computers, about 6 lights, 3 corless phone bases, and allows us to charge our cell phones etc. We did also try adding on the basement dehumidifier but the surge after 30 min. shutdown everything until I unplugged the dehumidifier.

We do turn it off every night around 1AM because even though our neighbors are 3/4 acre away they too can't believe how loud it is. Lying in bed at night it sounds even louder than during the day :)... I cannot imagine anyone using this to support an RV in an RV campground. But for getting us through this Hurricane we are thrilled. I personally have been wearing my son's ear protection earmuffs for car racing just to give me some peace for a bit.

Built very sturdy - easy to fill - easy to wheel etc.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to put together, comes with everything you need, started right up!, September 26, 2011

Well it comes pretty much all together you just need to put on the wheels and handle bars (no biggy). I put in the supplied oil, filled it with Gas and on the second pull it started right up (probably would have started on the first but the gas needed to get in there). I haven't used it for long so I can't comment on its longevity but my one qualm about it is that the motor does not seem to be a brand name as far as I can. There are no really apparent labels on it which would lead me to believe it is not a briggs or kawi or....

5.0 out of 5 stars Hurricane Tested (Irene), August 30, 2011

This review is from: Generac 5622 GP5000 6,250 Watt 389cc OHV Portable Gas Powered Generator (Lawn & Patio)
This unit powered 2 10,000 BTU window AC units, a television, HEPA filter and a humidifier without issue. The cords/plugs did not become hot. The carb was dirty and needed to be cleaned prior to use, but that is after the unit sat for a year with only occasionally being fired up and fuel "Stable" was used.

Let it run out of gas before your store it. Do not let it sit with fuel for beaucoup months unless you know how to clean a carb. I bought this from Amazon, shipped to LA after Katrina, then moved to NC and used the unit (and am continuing to use it as no power currently) for Irene. The fuel guage fell apart and I removed same from the tank and sealed it with duck tape until I analyze the problem. If the generator turns off, it's out of fuel!

It's louder than other generators, but that is why you point the muffler at your bad neighbor.

This generator is Loud as the engine size is 389CC bigger than other with the same Wattage.

The noise is loud and need few pulls to start.

I bought this because the previous reviewer stated this is made in USA. However, the label so "MADE in China". Why pay more for a China made generator.
