I purchased the 10kw model 5883 on September 1 2010. Ran for exactly 6.8 hours before it crashed and burned (literally). The stator and the rotor melted down completely. Only had about 400 watts load on the generator at the time. It is now October 4th (33 day later) and I still don't have the generator repaired. The nearest "Qualified" service center is over 100 miles away and since I didn't purchase the Generator from them, they have been very unresponsive. I have spent at least 12 hours on the phone with Generac Technical support just to try get someone out to look at the generator. I am a generator Technician with over 30 years experience and I knew exactly what the problem was but Generac would not allow me to work on the unit, lest they would void the warranty. I finally got a so called technician to my location. After he spent 4 hours on the phone with Generac Tech support he finally ended up taking the generator back to his shop (over 100 miles away) to do repairs. Generac would not even consider replacing the unit. This sucks because now I will have a repaired unit for the price of a new one. Generac warranty is a sham!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, and Norwall Power Systems out of Arizona is where I purchased the unit, they would not stand behind the unit at all. Said it was used and they would not take it back. Generac specializes in advertising not in quality.

This is an excellent and full-featured unit. I had it professionally installed by an experienced electrical contractor and the local propane company provided a dedicated tank and made the gas connections. Literally no PM for the first two years. Built-in trickle charger keeps the battery charged. Auto mode runs a self-test weekly.
