Product Description

Offering an even more compact frame for 2011, the Generac GP3250 portable gas-powered generator (model 5982) provides a reliable 3,250-watt power supply wherever you need it and a maximum power output of 3,750 watts. An OHV (overhead valve) engine delivers performance and power, while a sturdy steel-tube cradle protects the generator's exterior. For safe and comfortable use, the circuit-breaker outlets prevent power overloads, and the low-tone muffler makes for ultra quiet operation. And with its solid, never-flat wheels and ergonomic fold-down handle, transport and storage are quick and easy.

Generac GP3250
The hardened steel-tube cradle, fold-down handle, and wheel kit ensure both durability and portability (see larger image).

Note for California residents: This model is not CARB-compliant. Units sold to California must be CARB-compliant.

A Durable Power Supply Wherever You Need It

The Generac GP3250 is an ideal portable generator to have at home, on the job site, or wherever you need power. Its compact frame--23 x 22.5 x 21 inches (LxWxH)--is fitted with 8-inch solid, never-flat wheels and a fold-down handle, so it can easily accompany you wherever you go. And with its hardened steel-tube cradle, this rugged generator holds up well for frequent travel, allowing you to look forward to years of operation.

Thanks to its versatile design, this generator adds comfort and possibility to any situation. Use it to keep your family safe through unexpected blackouts, add some fun to a camping trip, or make your job faster and easier.

Powerful OHV Engine with Secure Shutdown

The Generac GP3250 is equipped with a powerful 208-cc OHV (overhead valve) engine, which features a low-oil shutdown system to prevent engine damage and keep your generator in good shape for long-term use. It also features splash lubrication and a high-performance alternator, ensuring that operation of your electrical devices is efficient and smooth.

Plus, this generator's sturdy, 3.5-gallon steel tank ensures a full 9.7 hours of operation at a 50-percent load, letting you relax for hours of use. And with the tank's built-in fuel gauge, you can monitor fuel levels at a glance. Generac even provides you with your first supply of oil.

Plenty of Wattage to Run a Full Range of Appliances

The Generac GP3250 supplies 3,250 output watts and 3,750 maximum watts (for start-up of devices). It has an A/C voltage of 120/240 and a frequency of 60 hertz.

For unexpected blackouts, this is enough wattage to run home appliances such as security systems, mini-fridges, and computers. For construction and landscaping applications, it's enough to support devices such as trimmers, belt sanders, and circular saws. And for camping and outdoor events, it can run portable stereos, outdoor lights, and electric grills.

(Note: All appliances should be checked for actual wattage ratings.)

Safe, Quiet Operation with Overload-Protected Outlets

If security and quiet operation are important to you in a generator, then the Generac GP3250 is an ideal choice. Its 120-volt outlets are circuit-breaker protected, guarding against power overloads and allowing the generator to smoothly send power to your appliances. And the low-tone muffler means the generator runs at a comfortable noise level that easily blends into the background.

This generator is CSA (Canadian Standards Association) certified. It is backed by a two-year limited residential warranty (one-year warranty for commercial applications).

1.0 out of 5 stars Did not work right out of the box November 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
Purchased the Generac GP 3250 Generator and received in on September 23, 2011. It was unboxed and remained in my garage until the Fall snowstorm in Connecticut on October 22nd when all power went off for three (3) days. Pulled out the unit, put oil and gas in the generator for the first time, and hooked it up to my sump pump. The generator started right up but DID NOT put out any AC. Nothing that was hooked up to the generator worked. The generator ran, but nothing else. Called Generac and they said that I would have to take it to an authorized Generac repair facility but were unable to say that the repairs would be covered by the warranty. The repair facility said that they would look at it but that it would take one (1) week before they could get to it. When I asked Generac if they test all units before they are sent out by the factor, they said that they were. But, if the generators come without oil or gas, how is that done? So much for having a generator on hand for an emergency.

1.0 out of 5 stars Arrived In Pieces - Avoid! November 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
UPDATE: After initially accepting Amazon's offer to send me a replacement unit, I decided to just take a refund instead. Amazon declined to take the old generator back and said I was welcome to do with it as I pleased. I ordered some parts from a third-party...a new air cleaner housing and an air duct. When the parts arrived, I pulled the unit completely out of the box and discovered that the bottom frame was dented and bent but not so bad as to be unusable. I replaced the air cleaner housing, installed the air duct (an air hose to the carb) and noticed that the choke was broken off the carb and that the linkage was a little mangled. I got the choke handle on and was able to straighten the linkage. I put oil in the unit and added gasoline and it fired up (after I discovered that I connected the linkage backwards...long story). I plugged a lamp into both of the two 120v outlets and it lit up which apparently is a good sign and so I think I have a working generator for the price of some spare parts, a skinned knuckle and a lot of aggravation.

In inspecting the frame damage and the damage to the air cleaner and carburetor, it's clear to me that the factory puts these units on their side and slips the plastic bag over them. If the generator is flipped over hard enough, the damage I saw is exactly what would happen...basically, careless packaging at the factory.

Original review is below:

Ordered this item and received it 8-9 days later. When I pulled it out of the carton, there were broken pieces of plastic at the bottom...the housing for the air cleaner and a plastic duct were both badly damaged as though someone had reached in the framing with a hammer and took a couple of swings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powering us through 2 big storms November 3, 2011
By S. B.
We have about 200 hours of generator time on this unit so far. Excellent. Does not slow down or miss a beet.
Starts on the 1st pull almost every time. It is definitely quieter than our neighbors generators too.
1 day shipping, good price ...2 year warrenty, which most do not have.
Its all made in china, so you cant really avoid that.
We've run televisions, fridge, heaters, lights....so happy we have it.

1.0 out of 5 stars DOA October 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
Generator arrived and set up was pretty straight forward. I bought this after Hurricane Irene for future emergencies and wanted to buy what i thought would be a reliable machine...WRONG. Pull string came out 2 inches and would not come out more. Contacted Generac and they said i had to have it repaired even tough it was new they would not exchange it for a new one. Horrible customer service. My local repair center told me that the only generator manufacturer they would NOT recommend is Generac. Dozens of repairs many of which on brand new out of the box machines, I wish I would have known, Generac sucks...STAY AWAY. As a side note, Amazon customer service was fantastic, thank you Amazon.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broken upon arrival October 7, 2011
By Hank
Amazon Verified Purchase
Just received my Generac 3250 model 5982 today from Amazon via UPS. I was leary about shipping damage after reading some reviews on this product. The packaging was in good shape which I inspected upon delivery. After opening the package, there is the unique strong odor of Chinese manufactured rubber. Everything looks fine until I remove it from the box.

Then I see broken pieces of plastic in the bottom of the box liner. There lays the broken-off choke lever and some other broken plastic pieces. I inspect the carbuerator and air filter housing and can see a large piece broken off the air filter housing and a piece of metal broken off the carbuerator which holds on the choke lever. This was not broken by UPS shipping. It could only have been damaged prior to assembly to the frame unless someone kicked into the unit with a shoe toe prior to packaging. Some of the broken pieces were there and others weren't even in the packaging.

I fortunately discovered the damage prior to putting in gas and oil so I plan to return it to Amazon immediately. This is certainly not an enjoyable purchase. Extremely dissapointed. Do not buy this product!

1.0 out of 5 stars Quality Control Issues December 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
The product arrived broken in an undamaged box. So I can only conclude that it was repackaged or Generac has serious quality control issues. First, the Ignition Coil Assembly was broken; and I mean broken! The cap that goes on the spark plug was in pieces at the bottom of the box and the wire was just dangling. The cage around the engine and the engine cover itself were bent in. And to top all this off, the pull start is completely seized up. Will not budge. Don't even bother trying to send an email or directly call Generac. Couldn't find an email address and they will only refer you to an "Authorized Warranty Service Dealer" (translation: "Joe's Electric").
