HOME BACKUP POWER.COMFORT. SECURITY. COME WHAT MAY.
A permanently installed Generac home backup generator protects your home automatically. It runs on natural gas or liquid propane (LP) fuel, and sits outside just like a central air conditioning unit. A home backup generator delivers power directly to your home’s electrical system, backing up your entire home or just the most essential items.
Protect the things that matter during a power outage.
Generac’s Guardian Series 8 kW automatic standby generator provides essential circuit power protection for your home, ensuring necessities such as lights, refrigeration and more remain powered during an outage. This affordable automatic standby generator offers protection for about half the cost of central air conditioning
True Power Technology
Best-in-class power quality with less than 5% total harmonic distortion means clean, smooth operation of your sensitive electronics and appliances.
When combined with a pre-wired transfer switch, re-engineered connection points, and composite mounting pad that eliminates the need for a poured concrete base (unless specified by local codes), the Guardian Series 8 kW generator is easy to install.
All-Weather Steel Enclosure
Our durable powder-coat finish helps make the sturdy, Galvanneal steel enclosure perfect for all weather conditions. It’s also able to withstand 150 mph winds.
Quick, Quiet Exercise Test
Standby generators require a short run-time periodically, known as exercise, to test and ensure the system is functioning properly and ready for an emergency. The Guardian 8 kW self-test runs for only twelve minutes. Choose your schedule - weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.
Rated for Operation in Areas with Low Natural Gas Pressure
In areas with low natural gas pressure, the Guardian Series 8 kW generator can operate on natural gas pressures of only 3.5” of water column.
24/7/365 Customer Support
Power outages don’t always occur during normal working hours. That’s why Generac’s customer care call center—right here in Wisconsin—provides support any time of day or night, all year long. Generac is standing by 24/7, every minute of every day, to answer your questions.
- Runs on home’s existing natural gas or liquid propane supply, eliminating refueling, manual start and extension cords
- Requires an automatic transfer switch
- Model is UL, CUL and EPA compliant for safety, also CARB Compliant
- 5-year limited warranty
Generac OHVI Engine
Your Guardian Series generator might have to get you through days—or weeks—without utility power. Generac’s OHVI engine, specifically designed for generator use, provides the reliability to power through the most severe outages.
The next generation of intuitive controllers featuring a multilingual, two-line LCD text display with color-coded, backlit buttons.
Certified for 18" Installation to the Home
Third-party certified to NFPA standards to be installed as close as 18” from the home’s exterior wall, provided it is located away from doors, windows, and fresh-air intakes, and unless otherwise directed by local codes.
Mobile Link Compatible
Take advantage of Generac’s Mobile Link cellular remote monitoring system and check on your generator’s status using your computer, tablet or smartphone, even when you are away. Sold separately.
Top Customer Reviews
It is well made, and has a proven engine performance and reliability. We also have the SmartLink which keeps a constant watch on the generator and notifies when there is a problem (which there hasn't been). This Link notifies when the unit is in test mode and when it shuts off. This data is also transmitted to our installer who can respond if there ever is a problem. That is a nice feature.
We did think about going all-hog and getting the liquid cooled unit, and living in the Gulf South we are subjected to power outages during really bad storms. However, putting pen to paper, the 22KW unit made more sense for the actual amount of outages that we have. I can afford to replace the engine/generator assembly completely again before I reach the cost of the liquid cooled version. It made more sense to go with the Air Cooled Unit.
As far as operation...this unit runs our ENTIRE HOUSE...and we have three AC units (2.5T, 5T and a Mini-Split 1.2T)...plus all the lights (we upgraded to LED bulbs). No issues at all!
We highly recommend this unit! A+++++
As far as installation goes, most electricians are going to charge anywhere from $500 to $1000 for transfer box, and then the plumber to hook up the gas line. Gas has to be ran to the unit, so unless you have an existing gas line already in place, the plumber has to lay pipe and your natural gas. Total cost for install was just under $1500.
The unit looks great, self tests every week, and providing I maintain the unit, it should last many years
Since it is powered by natural gas, it is relatively quiet to the gasoline powered generators in the neighborhood. It was trouble free and gave very even output no matter what the load was on the unit with its 20 circuits. For a 2500 square foot home, including the hot tub equipment, it powers about 80% of the devices (lights, water pump, heat pump, electronics / tv / satellite ) and makes staying in the home easy while my neighbors either went to hotels or struggled with their portables, refilling their tanks every 6 to 12 hours of use.
I did not buy them at the same time. I wanted to make sure the first one would work reliably before getting another one. So far so good.
Skip forward to May - contacted Generac and found a service shop (not the installation shop) that would come out. It wasn't until July that we saw someone as we are remote and he immediately knew that the motor was blown. By September I had a new motor and was about to leave for Florida again.
In the meantime I'd been in contact with Generac about the propane usage as well as getting some sort of warranty on the relatively new unit. Once we were in Florida, they said that they wanted a service guy to come out and read the log so that they could estimate the propane usage ... but of course the place was closed up at that point and the unit locked.
Well, here we are again, Christmas in Canada and guess what, the entries in question are now past the end of the run log. What now ? It's a year since I paid for a year's worth of propane (we fill the huge tank once per year) to replenish what was used by the faulty equipment. The unit is also saying "battery problem" so there's probably an issue with the charging circuit.
Will I ever get any satisfaction out of Generac ? Who knows. Perhaps I should have been dealing with HD who sold me the equipment in the first place instead of being Mr.Read more ›
