I also have been a fan of Cafe Francais since it came on the market. I so look forward to my coffee each morning. No more!!! The shipment I received last week came in a tin with a new look. My first thought was to check the ingredients against my old tin. Well guess what-----they changed a perfect formula. It has more sugar, less fat, more sodium, and a whole lot less coffee. It tastes more like creamer with very little coffee flavor. I sent an e-mail to General Foods International Coffees and am waiting for a reply. In the mean time I will not order it anymore unless they change the formula again. I am soooooo disappointed that General Foods would mess with perfection but not surprised. As I told General Foods in my e-mail, the Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans would be amused that they are passing off this new formula as Cafe Francais.

Hello
I just got a letter from Kraft foods and they are bringing back the old formula this summer! Until then they stated to look for the best used by date of Jan222011 or any date after that and the taste will be almost like the original, I tried it and it does almost taste like the old formula. YAHOO!!!!!!! That other stuff was terrible and they now realize it too.

Verified Purchase
This product used to be a five-star for me. I was thrilled to find that I could order it through Amazon in quantity, at a great price. This most recent shipment was my third - and I noticed that the can was different. But nothing on the can indicated that the product had changed, so I thought it was only a cosmetic makeover. WRONG.

Many people have noted in their reviews that they like this product because it is not as sweet as the other flavored coffees; well, now it is, AND there's less coffee flavor.

I looked up the company's website and e-mailed customer support. They confirmed that they have "reformulated" Cafe Francais, and said would take my comments into consideration. I urge everyone who is unhappy with the "reformulation" to go to [...] and ask General Foods to PUT IT BACK THE WAY IT WAS. If enough people complain, they WILL listen!

Meanwhile, I'm scouring all my local grocery stores for the "old" cans of coffee...

UPDATE AUGUST 2013:

Well, I missed the posts after mine stating that they were changing back to the old formula; in the interim, I became a Starbucks junkie when I could have been enjoying Café Francais again, for much less $$$, lol! What brought me back here was a new complaint: I purchased a can before a recent cross-country trip, thinking it was the "yucky" formulation but willing to drink it on a limited-term basis during motel stays. I only drank one cup(and I do remember noticing that the flavor had improved) before learning that the new can design (all plastic) doesn't seal tightly like the old metal can did. It leaked powdered coffee throughout my luggage - so I tossed it. I will have to try it again to see if it's really as good as it was in the "olden days," and if so, I'll put it in a sealed jar before leaving on a trip.

I am really saddened by the decision by General Foods to "reformulate" what used to be the best of the boutique coffies they marketed. The rest of the product line is so sweet they are like drinking hot chocolate rather than coffee.

Here's a clue, if you want to drink hot chocolate, then drink hot chocolate, not instant coffee.

Sad to say, I will no be buying any more of these now universally syrupy sweet coffees.
What a terrible disappointment.

Add me to the list of long-time, loyal Cafe Francaise drinkers who are devastated at this change and will not be buying the new formulation. Whichever Kraft product consultant pitched this idea should be fired. The new taste is awful.

It used to be fantastic- I drank it every day. Now it is horrible. Way to sweet & chocolatey. I might as well just buy Swiss Miss hot chocolate. What were they thinking??? Whatever idiot who is reponsible for this should be fired.

You are all right and I'm weeping into my empty coffee cup every morning. The new formula is sweeter and more bitter. If there was a "no star" rating choice, I'd select it. Yecch!

The product pictured on the web site is not the product I received. The new and improved Cafe Francis flavor tastes like chocolate candy, not at all the wonderful flavor I drank for twenty years. Because of the changed taste , I no longer drink coffee. I am very dissappointed that Kraft Foods chose to change the product and pass it off as an improvment and market it without changing the name of the product. I will not purchase this product until Kraft Foods changes back to the original formula.
