This review is from: General Grants Letters to a Friend 1861-1880 (Hardcover)
One wonders why this book was republished since it contains very little interesting information on General Grant. All of these letters are available in the multi-volume series, "The Papers of Ulysses S. Grant," published by Southern Illinoise University. The letters here are published with any editing, and for people unfamiliar with Grant, it will be very difficult to follow the people, places, and events described herein. The book is still rated as above average, if only because Grant writes beautifully, and the letters show his droll, dry wit to perfection. But it would be a waste to purchase this volume, especially if you have access to the "Papers of USG" project.
