4.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy unit
The unit is quite sturdy and large enough for medium to large plants. I do feel that for the cost of it, that improvements can be made to the way it fits together. Also, adding a slightly bigger pump with an aerator at the bottom of the solution tank would be of significant improvement to it's performance.

3.0 out of 5 stars Does NOT hold 5.7 gallons...
I ordered 2 of these. One box was cut open and resealed and damaged with missing pieces. I called GH customer service and they are sending me out new pieces, no questions asked (yay gh!). However when i asked why it says only 2.5 gallon reservoir when I paid for a 5.7 gallon system, they were clueless and told me that they don't make one that large, however without...

However when i asked why it says only 2.5 gallon reservoir when I paid for a 5.7 gallon system, they were clueless and told me that they don't make one that large, however without everything in it it could hold 5.7 gallons.
This leads me to believe this company is being misleading about the size.

HOWEVER...this is a nice system and I would still pay the $55 for it...I just don't like being misled.

AND... I should add that shipping was super fast, so kudos to hydrowarehouse for that.

This is a great system for any beginner or pro to the wonderful world of hydro growing! We've ordered two of them so far (one for a friend) and we plan on buying ourselves another one as soon as our first crop yeilds some profit!

4.0 out of 5 stars Works but loses a lot of water, November 4, 2010
This review is from: General Hydroponics Power Grower Eco Complete
This was my first hydroponics purchase after having great success with the Aerogarden.

All these hydro set-ups are overpriced, but you're paying for the convenience of not building it yourself.

I used this product to grow a lemon cucumber plant indoors under fluorescent grow lights. I got ten lemon cucumbers on a seven foot tall vine--pretty darn good. I then cut back the vine about halfway and moved the unit to the balcony, where I got still more cukes in the sunlight.

One thing to plan on is significant splashing onto walls and floor around the container. To mitigate the water loss, I covered the drip ring and the area around it with plastic sheeting (black plastic "mulch"). This also eliminates algae growth.

The next time I use it I'll add an air pump and air stone, as I've read in many places that insufficient aeration is the number one mistake of the home hydroponics buff. Also, instead of hydroton, I might try Sure to Grow, which is expensive but super easy to handle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money Needs better packaging, May 4, 2011

First off I would have given 5 stars if it weren't for the horrible packaging job. Box was ripped with the tank sticking out the side of the box. No styrafoam or cardboard fastners in the box. That being said I have several home made bucket systems that work well but this is my favorite. You can drain the unit from the bottom and fill your reservoir up from the top without having to move your plant around. You could build your own bucket this way but it starts to become a hassle the more complex you make it. The housing seems very sturdy and should last me a long time. Several people have made comments about needing an airpump and stone for the reservoir but the falling water from plant chamber is more than enough turbulence to aerate the water. Overall worth your money if you want a simple syatem that will give good results. BTW with this system you are only using nutrients for 2.5 gallons versus 5 gallons for a DIY bucket system. The savings in nutrients more than makes up for the additional cost and ease of use.
