General James G. Blunt: Tarnished Glory

This book is pretty good about telling you what happened during the Civil War but right in the title the author uses the word "Tarnished" because General Blunt was involved in some scams after the war and had the misfortune to die crazy of syphilis in a veteran's hospital in Washington DC. The author barely talks about the scams he was involved in and then it is obvious he did NO research about General Blunt's death. In the book the author said he was surrounded by his wife and family when he died. NOT TRUE! I am not an author but I found the truth simply by using an old newspaper website. General Blunt had been seperated from his wife before he was committed to the hospital and when he died (at the hospital), no one claimed his body. Finally his son-in-law had it shipped back but it wasn't out of love. All of the records of General Blunt's stay at the then St Elizabeth's Hospital are in their archives (I checked) and researchers can go and look at all of it.
Besides being the only general from Kansas during the Civil War, I thought this would make an interesting story because of his actions afterwards but not if I can find out more facts on my own. I felt cheated, especially when I saw that the author didn't even bother to do a simple Internet search like I did. If he was a dedicated author, he would have spent a day in the archives in Wash DC to get the reader the truth and also would have presented us his criminal past.
