Book Description

September 1, 1998
This book demonstrates how General Patton's leadership principles can be a practical guide for anyone interested in achieving a successful career and life. It is based upon Colonel Stillman's personal observations of the General as a member of his staff in Europe during World War II. The author highlights Patton's period of greatest military achievement as Commander of the Third Army. He portrays the General's concept of leadership in an easy to understand diagram and discusses how its application can be useful in your daily life. Stillman also devotes a chapter to Patton's fatal flaw and the importance of recognizing your "Achilles heel". New material and numerous stories about Old Blood and Guts appear throughout the text. An interesting section is devoted to fact and fiction about Patton, including his beloved dog, Willie. Significant features include: 6 X 9 Inch hard cover edition with three-color cover; printed on acid-free paper for superior photo reproduction; professionally written by a nationally recognized authority and WWII aide to General Patton; index and extensive bibliography; numerous photos, maps, and charts.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Dick has woven a splendid tapestry of Patton's character, personality, leadership style--and his warts...After a summary of the action, Stillman points to the particular leadership principles Patton applied in different situations. It makes for fascinating, informative and helpful reading. -- Stephen E. Ambrose, Ph.D., author, Undaunted Courage

It has been my good fortune to have Richard Stillman as a friend, professional colleague and mentor for almost 30 years. He not only knows leadership, he lives it. Much of what he knows came from working closely with General George Patton during crucial campaigns of World War II. With a careful blending of first-hand observation and the best thinking on leadership, Stillman gives us cogent, practical, timeless principles and techniques for succeeding in business and life. -- Michael LeBoeuf, Ph.D., author, How to Win Customers and Keep Them for Life and The Perfect Business

About the Author

Richard J. Stillman is professor of management emeritus, University of New Orleans. He did his graduate studies at Harvard and Syracuse with a Ph.D. from the latter. He appears frequently in the press and on radio and T.V. to discuss management, military and personal finance topics. Stillman was featured in a two-hour A&E biography entitled Patton: A Genius of War. His entertaining and informative talks about Patton, particularly his impersonation, have made him a sought-after speaker about the General. During World War II, Dr. Stillman was on General Patton's staff and had an opportunity to observe at firsthand the General's leadership. As Secretary of the General Staff (Headquarters, Third Army) at the end of World War II, he had an office next door to General Patton. Sillman applied Patton's concepts in managing his own life including four successful careers as a soldier, teacher, writer and entrepreneur. His military decorations include: The Legion of Merit, The Bronze Star, The Luxembourg Order of the Crown, and the Paratrooper Badge.

hi, this is one of the best books on the subject of war strategies, life strategies. There is no better expert on Patton than Dr. Stillman. He has a site for his burial on Patton street. If you are a management student also applies
