These centers are used to align dowel holes- you drill one hole, plop in the insert, align the pieces you want to join, and push them together, then drill the second hole where you just marked it. Nothing could be easier. OK, not drilling holes and making stuff would be easier, but not much fun.

I bought a set of these (identical in every way), over 30 years ago and have a project coming up that requires extras. Unlike many products that are still being made, but not as well as they used to be, these are the same quality as my old ones. The only difference is the packaging - the old ones were in a slotted plastic box. As I remember, the price is less than inflation would have caused. This is a good buy for a product that works.

They aren't brass plated as indicated in the photos and description, but they still do the job. The manufactures packaging states they are nickel plated steel.
Just keep them dry.
