These centers are used to align dowel holes- you drill one hole, plop in the insert, align the pieces you want to join, and push them together, then drill the second hole where you just marked it. Nothing could be easier. OK, not drilling holes and making stuff would be easier, but not much fun.

I bought a set of these (identical in every way), over 30 years ago and have a project coming up that requires extras. Unlike many products that are still being made, but not as well as they used to be, these are the same quality as my old ones. The only difference is the packaging - the old ones were in a slotted plastic box. As I remember, the price is less than inflation would have caused. This is a good buy for a product that works.

They aren't brass plated as indicated in the photos and description, but they still do the job. The manufactures packaging states they are nickel plated steel.

Just keep them dry.

These dowel center plugs work as indicated - simple yet effective. Shipped and received in a timely manner.

I was building a table that required some doweling. These performed well, came in the sizes that I needed, and were wonderful...

Until it was time to put them somewhere. I work in a shared workshop where tools smaller than a hammer tend to disappear. These little guys should come in a case. One star removed for not including a chintzy case. I would have been happy with one of those crappy $0.99 plastic deals that cheapo drill bits come in.

If you've got your own case and a project that requires properly-aligned dowel holes, you've found your transfer plugs. Otherwise, just buy a little case along with these. They're cheap enough.

These plugs are excellent for transferring the location of dowel or screw holes in a shelf to a support. They fit in the holes snugly, and come out easily, even after a hard hit with a mallet. Only problem I had, is one shelf had three holes, and there are only two plugs of each size in a set. So I should have purchased a second set. A simple solution.

After just having finished building my first workbench about a month ago and having a hard time aligning dowel holes on some big pieces I decided to get a set of these alignment plugs. I have yet to use them but they seems well made and the price was right (specially with free super saver shipping).

Brass would be better, these rust if not careful. a case would be nice, these are real easy to lose. I bought replacement because the old ones are lost, not worn out.

the item arrived exactly as advertised in a timely fashion and that's all I've got to say about that OK.

These plugs are accurate for setting and marking holes for your dowels. They have a snug fit yet are easy to remove when your are done using them. solid brass for long life.
