Adjustable trammels are used to scribe arcs and circles that are too great for conventional compasses and dividers. They are to be attached to a rigid item such as a steel rule or board. The points can be replaced with pencils or other marking tools. This precision trammel set that fits any scale, 1/2" to 1-1/8" wide. It has two scriber points and two pencil points included. Up to four points can be stored in the body.

Trammels accurately measure and mark distances that are too great for conventional compasses and dividers. Trammels will accurately transfer measurements, scribe arcs and lay out circles. Points can be replaced with pencils, ballpoint pens, crayons or soap- stone sticks for marking various materials.Features: * Free-wheeling thimble for greater precision.* Aluminum knurled body.* Will accurately transfer measurements, scribe arcs, and lay out circles too large for conventional compasses.* Will fit any scale, 1/2" to 1-1/8" wide.* Two scriber points and two pencil points included.* Up to four points can be stored in body.* Steel collet holds replacement leads, scribers and crayons.* Points reverse into body for safety.* Ruler not included in set.* Each trammel measures 4 inches long (from point tip to end) To insert lead, open the collet by the tip and pull the small metal scriber point out, you will find the lead stored in the housing of the handle. Open the housing by unscrewing the handle and removing the black cap inside of the handle. Remove the lead, carefully insert the lead into the head and tighten collet.

I bought this, received it and was astonished at how cheap and useless it was. It only barely slides in under the definition of "trammel". The metal is really thin, it wobbles, and I wouldn't really recommend its use. I should have paid less attention to price and more attention to getting something worthwhile that works.

the trammel points worked fine for drawing some bigger over 14" circles I needed for
a woodworking project. The threads on one point were too rough to tighten and loosen
easily so I made that the end for my steel point. The other end I was able to make
work for my lead to draw circles. These are not a really precision set, but for the
price you get what you pay for. This is OK for someone who will not be using it a
lot.

I don't know what to say. I am a stage carpenter and have been for 10 years. When I received the set, I looked at the two points and started to scratch my head.The pieces thread apart and I thought. "Why?" WTF? There is no way that even a math teacher can use these to draw circles. There is just no way these trammel points are usable.
