Works decent, but is incredibly stiff.

As others have mentioned, the movement of the pins is stiff - INCREDIBLY stiff. As in, trying to move all of them at once (as I suspect you would over a gradually curved surface) requires some serious effort. Like, put your weight into it effort. This makes it totally useless for anything that has any give, or a delicate finish on it. I would NOT use this on a glossy surface for fear of slipping while trying to get the contour and mangling the surface with the metal pins.
That said, the pins THEMSELVES are a bit on the flimsy side. Enough so that, if you try to use this around an object that is smaller than it's length (I was playing around with PVC pipes and things), you can only capture about 80% of the shape. Because of the double whammy of the pins being so hard to move, and simultaneously not rigid enough, the pins on the last 1/4" or so of a shape simply bend away, instead of pushing through. So while a pipe should make a perfect "C" of a half circle, what you end up with is a sort of flattened "D" instead - with straight sides.
I returned mine because it simply won't work for any of the projects I have in mind for it (I'm an artist, not a woodworker by trade).
