Customer Questions & Answers

Customer Reviews

If this was something I needed to make more than 5-10 cuts in a day, I would probably grow frustrated with it.

The blade wobbles slightly so it sometimes takes a few passes to get a groove going, but I got it for cutting larger pvc pipes without having to make any loud noise.
Charlie T
The "quick release" function of the wheel tensioner keeps slipping out of the gear and backs out with even the slightest amount of wheel tension.

I bought this to cut some 1 1/2" pipe. Worked great, and very well made. I'd probably put it at consumer grade though. I'm not sure how well it would stand up to constant professional use.

I bought this to replace one (another brand) that was worn out. This works better than my old one and does an excellent job on all of the pipe that I have tried. I love the way it quickly makes macro adjustments and works well with large diameter pipe and small. Have used it on PVC, steel and copper. Works well even when taking small amounts off the end of a pipe. And, the best testament to the quality and function of this tool is that several of my middle schoolers used it to make various musical instruments out of various types of pipe and were able to use it easily without damaging it!

I bought this cutter for hobby use, and it is definitely not capable for even the smallest amount of cutting. The "quick release" function of the wheel tensioner keeps slipping out of the gear and backs out with even the slightest amount of wheel tension. I would have better luck with cutting pipe with a butter knife. When I contacted General Tool through their website to ask about this issue, I received no response. I will NOT be buying any of their tools again.

I've used this lightly for a few years (worked reasonably well) and one of the components is now bent and the product unusable. General Hardware (the mfg) warranties for a year so no replacement. $30 for this, vs. $60 for a Ridgid, I'm as value-conscious as the next person but I am going to go Ridgid as I don't want to have to keep replacing this (especially not as I rely it if infrequently).

I have to contact General Tools to see if this one is defective or if it's just me. Trying to cut 1-1/2 inch brass waste pipe the tool traveled in a spiral which if it had cut through on the first pass would have made a very interesting metal curlicue. When sighting down the cutting wheel it seems not aligned properly to the rollers. It looks off axis and the wheel is not perpendicular.
