These will turn your framing square into a fast, repeatable tool for laying out stringers on stairs or birds-mouths on rafters. For 4x the price you might consider the Starrett 111 which provides a larger/taller bearing surface, but these work well. You may also be able to find them cheaper locally, but Amazon Prime makes it so convenient that I didn't have to leave the house.

difficult to keep these stair stops secure during use; they tend to slip...and, over just the few months that i have owned them, they have discolored. I agree the design concept is very functional & useful but there must be a similar product available with better quality...

I just finished building a stairway using these simple but amazing little things. Once you get your measurements, just tighten the tops down on these things on your square and off you go. Each step is exactly like the last one.
