Looks can be deceiving...,

This review is from: General Tools SPC600 Jewelers Screwdriver Set (Tools & Home Improvement)
I originally purchased this precision screwdriver set as what I hoped to be a decent compromise between a more expensive, but high quality brand, and the inexpensive Chinese-made sets you can pick up at dollar stores everywhere. When the set arrived, I determined almost immediately that no compromise had been made. In fact, this particular set was of lesser quality that the majority of dollar store sets I have used. The SCP600 Jeweler's Screwdriver set came in a cardboard package with the same sample picture referenced on the Amazon page. Opening the package finds a vinyl case that holds the screwdrivers. The screwdrivers themselves looked adequate at first glance. Certainly not very similar or as high quality as the samples in the pictures, but not bad considering the price. Once they were removed from the vinyl case, it became apparent that quality was not in the equation. All but one of the screwdrivers looked bent at the collet/chuck connection. The smaller bladed screwdrivers were also bent where the shaft was turned down to the blade diameter. The chuck assembly was cross-threaded on two of the screwdrivers and all of the chucks were drilled and tapped crooked causing the collet and blade to cant away from center on the handles. This was what caused the screwdrivers to look bent at first glance. Deeper scrutiny revealed that the flats of the blades were anything but, and the ends of the blades were at something less than 90 degrees to the shaft which will cause cam-out and tear up the screws you attempt to use them on. The blade ends that fit into the collets looked to have been ground by hand and had excess play even when the chuck was fully tightened. All in all, I was really disappointed by the lack of quality in these tools. I have the 18-piece ultratech tool set by General that is actually quite well made and has a multitude of blades to choose from. It is hard to believe the disparity in quality between the two sets, especially when the other set I purchased was only a dollar or two more than this one. The one bright point in all this was that Amazon's return procedures are easy as pie and made me really happy I purchased through them. I just wish the item had been worth keeping. To finish out this review, anyone who is looking for a decent quality jeweler's screwdriver set should skip this set and keep on looking. This is not the precision screwdriver set you are looking for.
