Editorial Reviews

Review

This book has been written for the "twentysomethings" who may be contemplating entrepreneurial pursuits and self-employment as a way out of what the authors describe as "the mind-numbing, soul-eating, life-sucking agony of spending forty hours a week doing something you hate just so you can make barely enough money to cover food and rent." Part One of the book encourages readers to discover their inner passions, true interests, hidden resources, innate aptitudes, and core competencies. Part Two of the book confronts readers with a wide range of ideas for businesses in areas that range from "Plants and Farming" to "Eco-Business" concepts. This 60-page portion of the book called the "Business Idea Directory" could be more exhaustive; for example, in the "Small Business" section there are only 17 ideas for small businesses that serve other businesses. The book ends with sections that contain advice on such topics as how to organize legally, how to analyze start-up costs and operating expenses, how to choose effective marketing tools, and how to handle bookkeeping and taxes. While the "Business Idea Directory" portion of the book is by no means comprehensive, and the business ideas themselves seem randomly selected, this book would be helpful as a first primer to anyone of any age considering a business start-up. The Naftalis write in a down-to-earth, enjoyable, conversational style as they provide valuable food for thought to people thinking of leaving the work force in order to write their own - and other people's - paychecks. -- From Independent Publisher

4.0 out of 5 stars New Hope, May 23, 2000
This review is from: Generation E: The Do-It-Yourself Business Guide for Twentysomethings and Other Non-Corporate Types (Paperback)
This book gave me some great insight on what a person in their twenties can do to break out of the corporate prison and into the new world self employment. I particularly liked the hope and the realism that the author displayed for the young entrepreneur of the new millenium. It was a very fast read...couldn't put it down and I will read it again!
