Grade 9 Up—A thorough yet accessible manual on green living. Sivertsen and her teenage son draw on scientific findings, personal experience, and interviews with celebrities and teens to provide readers with environmentally responsible lifestyle alternatives, from organic cosmetics to natural kitchen cleaners to green career opportunities. The "Five Rs"—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rethink, Refuse—provide a framework for embracing an alternative to rampant consumerism. The book's incisive voice, using teen idioms, is accessible to those who have little or no background in environmental issues, yet the standards within will likewise engage readers already committed to being green. Though there is no index and the many pop-culture references may hinder the work's longevity, this volume will appeal to the target audience. Chapters are broken into frequent, user-friendly subheadings, and special interviews—many with energetic, activist teens—are clearly designated; decorative illustrations complement the text. Listings of green Web sites, charities, and organizations are included. Generation Green is a book that will truly make a difference with teens and anyone who reads it. I read it fairly quickly and am passing it along to my 18 year old son. This book will teach you ways you can make a difference in many ways, big and small. If each of us changes just one thing that we do we can make big changes. If we each change a few things and increase that over time, we can make even bigger changes and a huge difference for our future and our childrens futures. Why anyone would ignore or not do any of the things mentioned in this book, is just beyond me.
This great little book lets teens know how much water it takes when they take a shower, and really just informs them of the facts of life all over the world and how easy we have it. It then tells them small things they can change in their lifestyle to make big differences.
I think this book should be required reading for every high school. I plan on buying many and giving them to everyone I know, teens and adults.If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would.

From beginning to end and very well organized, this book provides useful, appliable, timely information to help us become environmentally conscious in our daily lives; from baby steps to creating an entirely green life with great examples and interviews with smart, inventive people doing great things. It informs us what is happening and why and proviedes numerous resources. We can easily turn our poor habits around and make a difference! Thank you Tosh and Linda Siversten for your timely creation.

And good for adults in many ways too. This book packs a lot of useful tips and information together, and while it focuses on things that individuals can do on their own, it doesn't shy away from taking a look at bigger and more systemic environmental issues. It's very readable and engaging and really makes you feel that not only should you be concerned for the environment, but that there are many things you can do which are helpful and proactive.
The end of the text also includes references to books and organizations to look to in order to get more active and engage the issues further.
Very recommended.
