I like Hawaiian music - the more traditional type, and by that I mean the multi-part singing, the chanting, the high singing, and the repeated last line. I took a chance on this CD and was practically in tears after about 30 seconds. A compelling voice, top notch recording techniques, and a real honoring of tradition. She could have been singing about kelp for all I knew but it was so moving that I had to hear it all. Some is spooky, some jazzy - all wonderful. This would be a great introduction for anyone to the different kinds and textures of Hawaiian music. Highly recommended...

I'm listening to this album right now as I write this. I can't tell you how good this recording is. It is the most Jazz influenced Hawaiian recording I've ever heard, and it blends them perfectly. Amy's voice is beautiful and the production values are strong without being over bearing. I'm telling you, this is a Must Have. This album will become your favorite after the first listening.

Amy's music is wonderfully soothing. Her voice has a mellow quality and the selection of music is always varied and interesting.

Amy brings so much to contemporary Hawaiian music. She has the native history but also the modern music school training. This is a choice collection of songs with very fine Hawaiian musicians to accompany Amy on this delightful disc. Most songs are sung in Hawaiian but her pronunciation is very articulate and the liner notes are written in Hawaiian and translated to English for easy reference. She struggles admirably to reach the falsetto heights on Kau'ionalani (#6) but every other track is a joy. Most selections are lilting melodies but Tahiti Nui is a sweet tropical lark with blazing ukulele. See the grass skirts fly!! The final track is a real class act. "Jewel" is a touching affirmation to her fellow Hawaiians delivered by an artist who really is in a position to lend a gifted hand up.
