Not as well known as they should be...,

This CD was recommended to me before I'd ever heard of Cyclefly, and it won me over straight away. Just about anyone else I've mentioned them or recommended them to hasn't heard of them either, which is a shame really because it's a downright decent album. I think that it's Declan's vocals that really make the music work; it's this that really sets them apart from the similar styles of Placebo, Smashing Pumpkins etc. The songs are of excellent standard, 'Violet High', 'Whore' and 'Supergod' being the highlights for me, and some of the guitar work is very good. I can't help but think of what a second album could hold...

I was a DJ for awhile and looking for new stuff to play was part of the fun. I bought this album because they where different and I had a few people buy the album after coming to some of my party's.

I've heard comparisons here to Bush and Foo Fighters, yet I think they belong in a heavier class. They sound somewhere between Videodrone, Deadlights, Smashing Pumpkins, and Finger Eleven, but this CD varies a lot from song to song. You have your heavy groovecore on a song like Crawl Down and then you have the lush Whore just a few songs after. They are very melodic and as much as I'd like to call them metal, I think they'd rather be considered closer to the Smashing Pumpkins. The vocals sound like a little deeper voiced Billy Corgan, and the guitars are very deep and multi dimensional. This is nicely produced as well and the music is just right, not too demo-ish yet not over produced. The drummer is great, especially on Violet High, where he really goes all out and drums wonderfully. I do have a problem with the bass though, because it's hard to hear him at all. When you do, however, you get these really weird tones that I kind of like. It could definitely be on alternative radio, although the lyrics are very brutal, but yet greatly written, much similar to New York hardcore crew Glassjaw. Overall, it's a fairly good record and band to check out. My favorite tracks here are Following Yesterday, Crawl Down, and Violet High. Alt. Metal would be the best term to call them.
