Not as well known as they should be...,

This CD was recommended to me before I'd ever heard of Cyclefly, and it won me over straight away. Just about anyone else I've mentioned them or recommended them to hasn't heard of them either, which is a shame really because it's a downright decent album. I think that it's Declan's vocals that really make the music work; it's this that really sets them apart from the similar styles of Placebo, Smashing Pumpkins etc. The songs are of excellent standard, 'Violet High', 'Whore' and 'Supergod' being the highlights for me, and some of the guitar work is very good. I can't help but think of what a second album could hold...

Good Debut,

I've heard comparisons here to Bush and Foo Fighters, yet I think they belong in a heavier class. They sound somewhere between Videodrone, Deadlights, Smashing Pumpkins, and Finger Eleven, but this CD varies a lot from song to song. You have your heavy groovecore on a song like Crawl Down and then you have the lush Whore just a few songs after. They are very melodic and as much as I'd like to call them metal, I think they'd rather be considered closer to the Smashing Pumpkins. The vocals sound like a little deeper voiced Billy Corgan, and the guitars are very deep and multi dimensional. This is nicely produced as well and the music is just right, not too demo-ish yet not over produced. The drummer is great, especially on Violet High, where he really goes all out and drums wonderfully. I do have a problem with the bass though, because it's hard to hear him at all. When you do, however, you get these really weird tones that I kind of like. It could definitely be on alternative radio, although the lyrics are very brutal, but yet greatly written, much similar to New York hardcore crew Glassjaw. Overall, it's a fairly good record and band to check out. My favorite tracks here are Following Yesterday, Crawl Down, and Violet High. Alt. Metal would be the best term to call them.

Outright Explosive Debut,

I picked up a copy of "Launch" (a CD Rom showcasingnew music)at my local Guitar Center a few months ago and decided tocheck it out on a rainy day. Wading through the various pop standards found on the CD, I came across a snippit of a live performance of a little song called "Better Than You" and was completely blown away. It is incredibly hard to explain how amazing this CD actually is. Cyclefly is a searing collection of hard rock songs which harkens back to some of the earlier Smashing Pumpkin albums (the vocalist sounds like a slightly more demented Billy Corigan with an Irish accent and the lead guitarist is simply amazing). Featuring several standout songs (including tracks 5,6,8, and 11), Generation Sap also flows brilliantly as an overall album. It has been years since I've heard a debut album so polished and confident. You'll have a hell of a time finding this record in the real world, though, so order it now. You WILL NOT be disappointed.

Cyclefly are an incredibly likeable band. They're lead singer has a marvelous voice, and the music is meticulously crafted. I do admit that cyclefly are pretty much just a dirtier version of placebo, but they pack all of the swagger and sway of a stooges-era iggy pop. great music

Damn they're good,

You gotta buy this CD. I went to see Cyclefly with Bush in Newcastle, and they Blew Bush away totally. The singer has a fantasticly unique voice, and the guitar sounds are also pretty special. A great album, for a nice price too. . . nice change from the norm.

This is a great cd. I recommend that you go out and buy this. I wish i could give a higher ranking that 5 stars. This group has a lot of talent,. I would compare their sound to something such as Bush, Foo Fighters, or possibly Incubis.

Heard them on a WWF highlights show.,

I heard 1 song off "Generation Sap" from Cyclefly. It was the background music to a segment of a WWF show called jakked. I thought they sounded great with an outragious singer. I saw the album at my local store for a great price... and decided to buy it on the spot. I was even more impressed with the rest of the album. Those of you who say the vocalist isn't very good..... you are definatly wrong. If you took this singer away from Cyclefly, it'd be like taking Trent Reznor away from NIN! It just doesn't happen! This is a great album. Everyone should enjoy it!

I went to see these guys in London last month and I had never heard of them before, but I'm really glad I saw them b/c now I am obsessed. To the guy who said they could have found a better vocalist, I think you're wrong. The vocalist they have is what makes them so intriguing to me. I know Cyclefly isn't for everybody, but if the album summary interests you at all, buy this CD.
