5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Stick! But READ THIS FIRST!!!, January 6, 2012
By
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Generation NEX Wireless Arcade Stick (Video Game)
I received this stick as a Christmas gift off of my Amazon wish list, and it is spectacular. It looks in the photos like the NES Advantage, and it IS a tribute to that stick, but it's a first-class arcade stick first. It's very large and very sturdy, with a glossy overlay. The Messiah/ Generation Nex people really took this thing seriously and made something out of wood and plastic that feels just as durable and responsive as an arcade control. Compared to my Hori PS3 fighting stick, this one wins easily.

The only reservation is this, and it's a big one: It WILL NOT WORK on a standard NES without a wireless dongle that sold exclusively with their Limited Edition gamepads. The dongle is not included with this stick.

Why they would make this decision is beyond me. Perhaps this stick was a loss leader for their stylish-but-not-quite-perfect Generation NEX clone system, which has the wireless receivers built-in. Whatever the reason, I put this stick on my wish list because I already owned the LE gamepads (which aren't very good) and so owned the receiver dongle. Sadly, if you just wanted to buy the arcade stick, it's probably cheaper to hunt down a used NEX console to go with it than to obtain the dongle and play on the original NES.
For anyone who owns a Generation NEX system or the wireless dongle, however, this is the unqualified best wireless option for playing NES games. I only wish they made a SNES stick as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars Messiah puts out QUALITY nes ADVANTAGE in supersized ARCADE form., August 30, 2008

This review is from: Generation NEX Wireless Arcade Stick (Video Game)
This is arcade quality, nes styled and wireless but also bigger than the front loading nes itself. It really has arcade buttons, individule turbo dials and led's. When using turbo they blink with the speed you've chosen.
Even if the led's ever burn out turbo still works. I bought 2 and on 1 of em a led wasn't flashing but turbo still workes perfectly.

For those with the limited edition nes pads lunchbox you can use the same
nes reciever with the arcade stick if you don't have that this will ONLY
work on messiah's generation NEX as it has built in wireless.

You can even take it a step further if you have the recievers there's a website called retrozone.com which has both nes-gcn and snes-gcn retroport adaptors making use of both nes and snes+ this arcade stick on both gamecube and wii! Gcn for gameboy player and wii's virtuial console.
The wiimotes must be used to get to the old games but once there you can use real nes / snes messiah gear. GREAT PRODUCT...only wish they came with the wireless recievers like the limited edition lunchboxes did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, but HUGE, June 22, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

This review is from: Generation NEX Wireless Arcade Stick (Video Game)
This thing is excellent. If you happen to have the Limited Edition Messiah Wireless NES controllers, you can use this with the wireless receiver to connect to an original NES (or a Wii with the RetroPort). Unfortunately, Messiah no longer makes the wireless receivers, so if you don't have them, this will only work on the Generation NEX NES clone (had to take a point off for that). The button response is great, and very fast. The turbo function is completely adjustable in terms of speed (for that perfect Metroid bomb jump). The stick is precise and moves fluidly. The wireless response is great (I've tried it from about 15 feet). Battery life seems good. Construction is solid.

One thing to note, however: this thing is BIG! I was expecting something in the range of the original NES Advantage arcade stick, but this is MUCH bigger. I'd say it's about 12"x8"x3", so it's bigger than the NES itself.
