Reader advisory: this will not be 'most helpful'

I review this apotheosis of the late boomers, fulsomely I hope (heck, I gave it 5!), over on user-friendly amazon.co.uk

This is just to say I hope the publishers have corrected affected (p87) to effected by now, but I doubt it. As for mouéed*, I don't know where to look! Though I guess if you think of it as mwah mwah with a French accent it's kinda cute - matches the preciousness of someone who not only italicizes, bless him, but italicizes **half**-words

Make sure to get the 1st edition. Not so much a book, more an artifact - indeed, an artifact of the very thing it chronicles. A cross between late Antonioni without the politics and youthful Godard without the sex appeal

*You can't turn French nouns into verbs, and even if you could, the accent is de trop

This is how it all started for Douglas Coupland. The story of Andy, Dag and Claire, three Generation-X-twentysomethings. Sharing an inside look into their everyday life with the reader, garnished with tasteful little stories from their past life, spot-hitting illustrations and guidelines such as "bench-press your i.q." make this one an absolute must-read for everybody born after 1968 and a bible for parents to understand the real problems of their little ones.BUY THIS, NO MORE WORDS NECESSARY!!!

Douglas Coupland's first novel, Generation X, made a definte and resounding impact on pop culture. He did not "invent" the phrase, but his novel brought to light all the things that 'generation X' has come to mean.

This is not Coupland's finest book, but as his first, it is an interesting study and an enjoyable beginning to a fantastic and continuing career. His writing style, even here in his first novel, is unique and flowing. Douglas Coupland's books will continue to have a finger on the pulse of his generation, and his influence on pop culture will continue to grow.

The only thing out of print here is a hardback "limited edition" which was released about 2 years after the book's original paperback printing. The paperback is still widely available and given how good the book is and how much it seemed to galvanize a generation (in both good ways and bad), I'm sure it will be in print for a long time to come.

Why is this out of print? It is one of Douglas Coupland's best! Yes, he did not invent the phrase, but the name generation x has become so important in modern society.

This novel may set up the phrase "generation X" to be used abundantly, now to the point of cliche, but for us to give so much credit to this book seems puzzling. The characters are slackers and I feel this story does little to show an improvement on thier part or a sincere care on the part of the author.

This interesting, as a history of how the phrase grew to cult status, but it is difficult to label this a great book.
