I tried this on a completely drained Samsung galaxy s3. Data turned off and brightness dimmed pre testing.

I cracked the arm 600 revolutions in 5 minutes which is some pretty serious work, but no big deal. I changed hands every 100 cracks. I'm fit, 35 year old male. I powered phone on and was able to call 4 people and got voicemail, none of them picked up. The phone read 3% and stayed on for 4 minutes before turning off.

This would be enough time to call for help if needed while hiking or if power ever went it for an extended period. If I really wanted to charge the phones battery, I could take a break in between 5 minute sessions and probably get it up to 10% in 5 sessions or so, in theory, given my simple experiment.

The K-Tor is very keen on doing what it says it's going to do. You'll be able to charge or power up just about anything that runs off of a standard 120 volt socket with one of these.

Pros:
-Durable (Probably can be dropped a few times without having to worry about it breaking.)
-Relatively lightweight
-Made in the USA!
-Does what it says it will do

Cons:
-If you don't crank it at the standard rpm for even a second it becomes very difficult to play catch up with the generator.
-Relatively large (I don't know if I was expecting something smaller in my mind, but this thing is pretty large and takes up a decent amount of space in a backpack(which is a big deal if you're a backpacker/hiker using one.))

Overall, it is a great product and I highly recommend it to anyone who lives in an area of the world that experiences power outages, or just anybody who needs to be able to charge their cell phone wherever they are at, no matter where that's at.

This is meant for emergencies really. If you want to fully charge something expect to be cranking for a couple hours straight.

I didn't like this product as much as I thought I would like it compared to a battery powered device, but was glad to be proven wrong! This thing works, you can't complain about that...Much as I can about other supposed "kinetic battery" devices.

I love my K-Tor hand crank generator!!!! It is great for powering portable devices like Tablets, Smartphones, Ipods, and handheld game consoles. It is very useful for places that does not have an outlet or power available. I have 2 and have one in my emergency kit & one that goes everywhere with me.

In The Box
In the Pocket Socket's box we have the Pocket Socket itself, as well as a rubber band and the manuals for the Pocket Socket. These manuals give us some information about how to correctly use the device.

Design
The Pocket Socket is made out of hard plastic, and it's fairly large, about the size of a water bottle. The handle folds in and gives the Pocket Socket a compact design. Unfolding the cranking handle is very simple and easy. On one end, there is an outlet where you plug in the device you are trying to charge. Once you have plugged in your device, unfolded the cranking wheel, and put the rubber band on to hold the charger in place, you may began spinning the wheel to charge your device. The wheel is surprisingly easy to turn, and doesn't give very much resistance.

Final Thoughts
This device does everything it's supposed to do flawlessly. The Pocket Socket is well built, and built to survive in rugged conditions. However, it may not be the most logical choice. This is ideal for trips where you won't have an outlet for a long time, but if you would just like to have a backup charger, you may want to consider an external battery that you plug into the wall each night. These batteries don't require any man-power, and hold a lot of charge. I would highly recommend this device to outdoor enthusiasts, or people that would simply like to have a more entertaining way of charging their phones.

The best money I've spent in a long time! I can say this little workhorse is essential after it was put to the test when the ice storm hit Texas late last week. It powered up my cell phone, weather radio, and my desk lamp with no problems. The size and ergonomics are perfect and you can really get a good grip on it with or without the rubber band and the crank is easy to operate with the two different type of grips I used. It is also light and small enough to keep in a day pack or in the glove box of your vehicle. The quality is just first rate with K-Tor, so I have been telling everyone I know to invest the money in one of these generators, and that they will not regret it when they are holding it in their hands at a time when they most need it.

As it's advertised, this device can charge any battery from zero of any smart phone to a usable level in case of emergency, only plug the phone's charger to the Power Socket, give it four or five minutes of cranking (as indicated in the user's guide) and ready to make a quick emergency phone call. 10 Watts power it's enough for a wide range of portable electronics. I've tried it with BB phones and samsung galaxy S2 and Ace Plus.
