A tip from a Polar s725x user w/WIN 7 update,
By A Sturdy Girl (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: USB to IrDA Adapter (Electronics)
First, it is important to know that the product is Kingsun-959. Don't expect to find a lot of support--but there ARE a good number of Polar users out there who can lend a hand. I got this for my Polar s725x hr monitor (saving $40 or so over Polar's own IRDA unit). I had some trouble getting it to work with Windows XP until I realized that after installing the drivers I needed to go into Network connections and set up a new connection through the IR port. Until I did this my computer was unable to recognize the Polar unit as it attempted to connect. Since then, it's been flawless.
This USB IRDA is tiny, but it is a little bit thicker than many USB devices, so if your USB ports are stacked you may want to use a dongle or a USB port extender. JAN 3, 2010: WIN 7 Update: WORKS OK in WIN 7 (for me at least). Windows 7 first said no-go. I was bummed. However I copied the KS959-2000XP.inf, ks-959.sys and ks959-2000XP.PNF files to my desktop, then manually installed the device (using control panel/ add device). I clicked "Have disk" and navigated to the desktop and presto! It actually seems to be faster now. And I did not have to do anything special through Network connections as I did in Win XP. Polar Precision Performance software recognized it immediately.

Works with Windows Vista and Polar S625X,

Does everything I bought it for - runs without issue on Windows Vista and the Polar sync software I use with my S625X watch.
NOTE FOR VISTA USERS: Vista won't automatically find the driver over the internet. You need to use the CD that comes with the adapter, and point it towards the folder with the Windows XP driver. After approving the driver for installation, it should work fine.

Works but you have to find vista drivers online,

I got this adapter so I could use it with my Polar F55 HR monitor. The drivers it came with did not work with Vista. Luckily I was able to google the vista drivers (which happen to be not on the manufacturer's website) using keywords "kingsun ks-959" and now it works fine. Big thanks to the fellow who wrote the drivers himself.

With a simple tweak, it works on Vista for Polar F55,

Good cheap option for polar monitors. Does not come with WINDOWS VISTA drivers. To make it work with VISTA, copy the driver for xp and install manually.
control panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Device Manager -> Infrared devices -> Kingsun KS 959 ---> right click and update/install driver from new location.

Works well with XP, not at all with Vista...,

Works with XP well, does NOT work with Vista. Actually, Vista is not listed on the package... Blogs post suggestions and some offer to download fixes for 2.99, etc. I will simply use this adapter with my XP comp and not with my Vista laptop

Using Polar F55 with USB to IrDA adapter,

After reading the reviews of this device I decided it was worth the 11.00 (6.99 +SHIPPING) to buy this device. If it didn't work then I wasn't out too much money. Well, it works great! Just make sure to follow the directions regarding setting up a new network connection as it won't pick up the signal until that has been done. I run Windows XP sp3 and it works like a charm!

A how-to from a Polar S725X owner,
By
This review is from: USB to IrDA Adapter (Electronics)
I bought this device based upon the recommendation of other reviewers of this product who owned Polar heart rate monitors, immediately after opening the padded envelope it arrived in I knew I was in for an adventure. Not even lying the packaging for this product claims "Easily and wirelessly transfers data betwenn [sic] PDA, notbook [sic], cameras, Mobile phones, etc." Well I followed the instructions provided and installed the drivers on the mini CD provided in the package and set about trying to transfer the weeks worth of training data I had acquired while waiting for this product in the mail. This failed miserably. I tried Polar's FAQs, re-reading product reviews on Amazon for tips, uninstalling and reinstalling product drivers, trying it on other computers in the house, downloading Microsoft's ActiveSync, and ultimately leaving comments on reviews for the product begging for help. Nothing worked. Finally Monday rolls around and I get Polar tech support on the line after holding for roughly 40 minutes and here are the settings that allowed me to connect my Polar S725X to my PC using this USB to IRDA adapter.
From Polar's ProTrainer 5 select Options>Preferences>Hardware Make sure IRDA is selected now press Options, uncheck the first box (Polar USB Interface AutoCheck) and the last box (Get day temperature automatically from Polar product). Now select Tools>Edit Polar Product Settings This should bring up a little window with an animation of two IR devices communicating. You want to take your HRM and put it in the connect mode (For the S725X you push the lower right button once) then put the IR window on the HRM directly against the IR window on the USB to IRDA super mini. If the HRM recognizes the USB to IRDA it should begin flashing "COM" continue to hold the HRM next to the USB to IRDA adapter. This will bring up a new window, now to transfer your data it's pretty self explanatory, but I'll cover it anyway. From the General tab you select Exercise Files, then select which ones you wish to save, this will transfer them over to your PC. Once you confirm they are in your Polar ProTrainer 5 calendar feel free to delete them. Hope that helps!

I bought this so that I could syncronize my Polar S625X heart rate monitor with my PC. It has always worked perfectly, and was much cheaper than the $60 IR unit Polar tries to sell people.

This product worked once when I installed it, and hasn't worked since. I've wasted hours trying to update drivers, and testing it with different devices, and have decided to just buy a different adapter.
