5.0 out of 5 stars Thought i was through my phase on this sort of book
A fable, a modern fiction, a true story - who cares.....the real story is about you and what you can do.

Great wrap at the end. And if you can get past any nervousness you may have (like me) on the subject of unconditional faith then it's well worth reading and passing on - inspiring sounds too corny a word nowadays for what is, actually, an old fashioned book - but...

I really really disliked this book. Sorry everyone who loves it. I did not find it inspiring or well written. I found it teeth grindingly preachy and overly religious. As a non religious person who has given their life to public service and the greater good I found this book to present a narrow view of generosity. If you are Christian you may like this book if you...

Thank you Ken and Truett - i will try, hard, you have reached me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! Buy 25 for your friends!, July 28, 2002

Short, powerful and life-changing. If you already have a generous spirit, you'll be inspired and motivated to be more generous. If you have friends or colleagues, who, with encouragement, could begin to experience the joy of generosity--they'll never forget your help in pointing them in the right direction. I hope this is Ken Blanchard's all-time best-selling book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A well-written book and very challenging to all of us, November 1, 2002

I loved reading the real-life stories of people who "made it" and then gave something back. It made me want to help people no matter what station in life I'm at. The desire to give it all - all the time comes from knowing who we are and there's an awareness deep inside that just spills over. It makes us view the world as an opportunity to care, not just a place to get mine. I think a lot of executives are missing this ingredient in their lives and this book would be of great assistance.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Path to Contentment, Fulfillment and Social Change, May 20, 2005

(REAL NAME)
"The Generosity Factor" may be the best of Ken Blanchard's many fine teaching novels. Through the use of an appealing story, Blanchard and Cathy challenge their readers to leave behind the capitalistic corporate model of materialism, that encourages greed and hording. Their recommended alternative is not a socialistic governmental model of regulation, redistribution and dependence, but the Biblical stewardship pathway of earning, giving and empowering. This encompasses more than treasure but includes time, talent, and touch. The authors refer to this as "The Generosity Factor" and they see it as the path to contentment, fulfillment and positive social change.

For this work Blanchard seems to raise his writing skills as a novelist. His characters are still stereotypical and his ending idyllic (which he admits) but there is a better dialogue flow between the personalities. The values of "The Generosity Factor" so counters our current cultural flow that they can't be ignored and their promise of a greater way of life dare us to embrace them. This book is good for the soul. I'm planning to order a case of these books to give away to others!

5.0 out of 5 stars significance is far more important than success, May 5, 2006
I came accross this book while moving offices at work. It looked interesting so I brought it home and read it. Then I had my husband read it. I've told my 14 year old daughter I would give her 20 dollars if she read it. I suggest everybody in the whole working world reads it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Generosity Factor, September 18, 2004
This is a book you can read in one to two hours, but what great wisdom you will get from it. So many times when we think of giving, we only think of giving money. Many people do not have a lot of money to give, but we all have some we can give. We forget there are other things we can give that cost us nothing- in their book they tell us there are four things we can give -Time, Talent, Treasure, Touch.

Each of us have some of these things we can give. So many times it is the little things that mean so much - a hug, a card or a phone call.

We live in a world where we are taught everything is about me. It's great to read books like this that say it's not about me. It's about adding some sunshine into others lives, about lending a helping hand when someone is down and out. Thank you Ken Blanchard and S. Truett Cathy for this wonderful story of how we can each be happier by helping others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book Review: The Generosity Factor: Discover the Joy of Giving Your Time, Talent, and Treasure by Ken Blanchard & S.Truett Cathy, October 4, 2011
The Generosity Factor: Discover the Joy of Giving Your Time, Talent, and Treasure by Ken Blanchard and S.Truett Cathy is a very good read - one of the best books I had the opportunity to read and review. In fact, I finished the book in one sitting!

I chose the book because I recognized Blanchard as the author of the One Minute Manager(TM) series and Cathy as the founder of Chic-fil-A and was very curious as to what sort of book this collaboration could produce. I was in for a surprise!

What I like best about the book is that is is very masterfully written and by the end of the book, I am encouraged to take action.

True to Balanchard's style, the book is in the form of a parable where we see the lessons through the eye of the main character. This approach is very effective with me as I am able to imagine how the story unfolds and how the lessons are being shared. Retention is better because of this and to reinforce retention, the authors uses an acronym the keeps the lessons together.

I was pleasantly surprised the as unbelievable as the one of the characters are, the real person from who it is based, Cathy, has far greater achievements.

Truly inspiring, makes you act on making the Generosity Factor a part of your life.

Highly recommended for everyone who thinks they are 'missing out' on something.

I really really disliked this book. Sorry everyone who loves it. I did not find it inspiring or well written. I found it teeth grindingly preachy and overly religious. As a non religious person who has given their life to public service and the greater good I found this book to present a narrow view of generosity. If you are Christian you may like this book if you are a generous person who is not Christian you will close the book with the creepy feeling that your hard work for a better world doesn't count to some people. If it inspires anyone to go out and do good for others great, but can't we do good for others without spreading our own religious agenda?

5.0 out of 5 stars A visionary parable, April 17, 2010
The Generosity Factor is a pick for both spirituality and self-help collections, offering insights into generosity and how it's a visionary parable for any seeking more to life than they already have. Using the parable of several self-made people, they provide five key principles to using generosity to achieve a more meaningful life.

This book was not what I expected at first. I assumed it to be more biographical. Either way, it was a great book! Very inspirational!
