I'm not generally a huge fan of 17 year olds heroine's and this book seems to fall into the pitfalls that all these sort of Regency's attempt, including a much too knowing heroine, who is very brave, very beautiful etc..etc..etc.. The story seems okay but the two main characters are lacking soul and I just never really could get very involved in the storyline. The writing is very good as you would expect from very early Catherine Coulter and that will not let you down.

I, too, enjoyed Ms. Coulter's wonderful writing skill. But I had a terrible time to enjoy the story. Perhaps because it was December when I read this book which really put me out of the homecoming, holly jolly spirit. This book was filled with greed, lust, power-struggle, back-stabbing, manipulating families that covered span of three generations. I was so out of patience with these dysfunctional family members, and tried desperately to get out of this gloomy mood (I felt for while I was trapped in the dark underworld), that I pretty much just skipped to the ending. At least one thing was for certain: That it was with a happy ending.
