5.0 out of 5 stars Classic gaming at its best
The Sega Genesis absolutely ROCKS. I have both a Dreamcast and a Genesis (not to mention a fast PC w/ 3d video card) and I can honestly say that my Genesis gets the most usage - possibly about 10x more usage than anything else - no exageration. And the best part is most used Genesis games - and there are a TON out there - fall in the $3-$10 range. So, I pay $5 for a...

1.0 out of 5 stars Received the system, but did not get Columns the game.
The system and two other games were shipped to me instead of the actually game in which I ordered! They instead sent me a Power Ranger game! What For? I didn't ask for this kindergarden kid game! Columns was never shipped. I tried to send out some emails on the problem, but have yet to get a reply. Makes you think twice about ordering anything else in the future!

So, I pay $5 for a Genesis game and play it more than my $40 Dreamcast game, and have more fun. Get the picture?

GENESIS: the best 16-bit console ever made, and possibly the best video game machine, period. 'Nuff said.

5.0 out of 5 stars I have the genesis 3 system...wish I had this one!, April 5, 2001

This review is from: Genesis 2 System with Columns (Video Game)
With video game technology changing all the time and new systems and games always coming out I still play this one. Honestly, when the genesis first came out I wasn't all that interested but over time I took a liking to it. The games are amazing! To name just a few...Sonic 1,2,and 3, Earthworm Jim 1 and 2 and the excellent Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter series. Great graphics and great gameplay make these even more fun. If you don't have a genesis get one if you can! I hope... will get this model genesis back in stock someday. I have the genesis 3 model which works fine but does not support any of the genesis add-ons such as the 32x or the sega cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sega Genesis the best game system ever, March 11, 2003
A Kid's Review

I had a sega genesis since I was four years old and I loved it. I had to sell it because I needed money fast.I used to have tons of games like Batman Forever,Stargate,Indiana Jones,Jeoprady,Battleship,X-men clone wars,Garfield caught in the act,Ecco the Dolphin, and more.If I still had one I would play it more than my ps2.In summary, this is the best game system ever and it's still an oldie but goodie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, dumb luck!, August 9, 2004

This review is from: Genesis 2 System with Columns (Video Game)
I was on my way somewhere and was running late, but can never resist the temptation of the game store everytime I drive by, so I gave in and stopped at the store.I walked around, and lo and behold, I spot a Sega Genesis system at the old system and game "graveyard" in the back of the store, all cables and other items included, that someone had apprently just dropped off with a nice selection of games. The system, save for a couple of small scratches, was like new. I grabbed it right away, along with Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic II, Mortal Combat II, all for $25. I am very surprised that I found this system, since they are becoming harder to find. I took it to a friends house later, tried it out and it worked just great. Playing Sonic took me back 10 years to college, when I first played this system. It was great being re-united with an old friend. Needless to say, I am happy that I got my hands on this system while I still can, and will spend hours playing it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good. Very, very good., December 18, 1999

First of all, I would like to say that Amazon.com has probably one of the largest selections of Genesis games and products I have seen in a while.

Genesis is an old system that debuted back in 1989. It reigned supreme until sometime around second half of '95. The system is 16-bit, the best for that time, but most of the graphics are good and even enjoyable if you don't think that all games nowaday have to be in fully polygonal 3-D. The system is solid, and is hard to break. It needs repair only once in ablue moon, and only if you did something exceptional to it. There are over 700 games made for it, but you do have to look around.

Now, for Columns ( the game that comes with the system): this is basically Tetris that uses colors in place of shaped. It is equally addictive, and thouroughly enjoyable.

Buy this system.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sega's shining moment : The Sega Genesis, February 21, 2001
By
This review is from: Genesis 2 System with Columns (Video Game)
Genesis was Sega's shining moment. Nobody thought anybody could top the "Big N" (Nintendo), but thanks to a game called "Mortal Kombat", the Genesis was suddenly wanted more than Nintendo's SNES. See, the reason is that Nintendo's "game quality policy" (I call it censorship) prohibited images like blood and graphic violence (read "Sub-Zero ripping out Johnny Cage's spine"), so MK on the SNES was censored (instead of blood, there was sweat, and the fatalities were toned down to the point they resembled the "Friendship" moves from MK2). Well, on the Genesis, thanks to the "DULLARD" code (hit down, up, left, left, A, right, down at the title screen of the Genesis version) you could play MK with the blood and real fatalities. However, there was more to Genesis than Mortal Kombat. Sonic The Hedgehog 1 and Sonic 2 are two of my most favorite titles. Streets Of Rage was considered one of the best side scrolling beat 'em up games ever (Streets Of Rage 2 is even better with awesome graphics), but what makes the Genesis shine IMHO is the Phantasy Star series, one of my most favorite RPG series (Final Fantasy being my most fave...long live Squaresoft). And Sega put some of their late 80s arcade games on Genesis, and they rocked (Shinobi, Altered Beast, Outrun, Golden Axe...they all ruled). The only drawbacks to the Genesis are the limited color pallate (both total and onscreen...it had a color pallate of 512 colors and could only display 64 colors at a time) and its sound chip and sound memory (SNES outdid the Genesis in both colors and sound), but Genesis games could have outstanding music (Yu Hasuko <sp> composed the absolutely fabulous music for the Streets Of Rage series...the music from the first Streets Of Rage game is so funky it might make you wanna get down with your bad self).

And if you can, grab a Sega CD and a 32X (both have some fun games).

In my opinion this is the best gaming system.A LIBRARY of over 700 games at very low prices. This system would be even better if amozon sold sega cd ....an add on for the sega genesis that could play games with fmv on it.Genesis itself is an amazing machine ....ive had hours of with it...I also think all this new crap like dreamcast is dumb cause all it is,is good graphics with out good game play. Some of my favorite games are road rash nhl95 sonic1,2and3 sonic spinball jeperdy earth worm jim virtual fighter1and2 super monaco.I also think this is the best genesis avalible.....genesis1 is to big...and genesis3 is to small and unstable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genesis, a great console...., September 28, 2000
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Genesis 2 System with Columns (Video Game)
The SEGA Genesis, it was a really great console, even with only 16-bit, it was really great, it could process great graphics (for 16-bit) and could still run ultrafast speed (Sonic Games). This Console is the best for clasic 2D Games, not to mention, it was the first console I saw and played, Sonic 2 was my first game, and I've been a fan of this great Mascot ever since. I say, even tough today's gameplays are all new 3D and awesome, we shoudn't forget the Great Clasic gaming the Genesis has gave us. Once again, it's a top notch for a 16-bit console.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sega, the best and always will be., July 26, 2001
This review is from: Genesis 2 System with Columns (Video Game)
What to say what to say. The sega genesis is possibly the most popular and best gaming system ever made. Sure N64 is fun but they never made 500+ games for it like sega did. I own a Nomad "like a game gear ex. it is better and plays genesis games". Sonic1-4 was very fun so was MK1-3. I recommend buying this because it is very very fun. I have owned my sega 2 for about.....8 years now. If you can get your hands on a Nomad get them on it.

The games have low prices to. My friend has owned this system for 5 years and it works fine now. So if you are interested in this system, then I would say sure go a head it is great!
