Book Description

August 21, 2007
Michael Crichton meets Dan Brown in this novel of the real secret code hidden in human DNA.

Nobel Prize--winning geneticist Joshua Ambergris has made an astounding discovery that will shake the foundations of science: He has discovered a coded text hidden in human DNA.

Before Ambergris can change the course of history by announcing his incredible discovery, he is brutally murdered in his office at Triad Genomics, an international biotech company. Ambergris has left behind a labyrinthine series of clues that ultimately reveals the truth: There is a message from a much earlier, more sophisticated human civilization encoded in the human genome!

Who planted this code eons ago? And why? And can it be decoded before it's too late? Ambergris's protégé, Christian Madison, and his assistant, Grace Nguyen, must follow the serpentine trail to uncover a global conspiracy of silence, secrecy, and murder that spans the breadth of human history.

A shadowy group known only as the Order guards the ancient secret enciphered in the mythologies and architecture of Earth's oldest civilizations and encoded into the very fabric of human DNA. Ambergris's clues lead Madison and Nguyen through the mysteries of the Maya and ancient Egypt, the forgotten knowledge of Sumeria, and the enigmas of modern science. Pursued at every turn by Ambergris's killers, Madison and Nguyen race to uncover the secrets of the Genesis Code before the Order can carry out the final, sinister step of a genocidal plan.

Driven by scientific fact and new interpretations of ancient writings, symbolism, and mythology culled from thousands of years of human history, The Genesis Code digs deeply into the questions of the real nature of the human DNA code.

From Publishers Weekly

The latest in contemporary fiction's secret code sweepstakes, a debut from Florida attorney Forrest, incorporates a host of mysteries. These include the I Ching, Fibonacci sequences, pi, Zipf's law, magic squares, the Bible Code, ancient civilizations (Mayan, Egyptian) and pretty much every other enigma littering the wilder shores of the Internet. Dr. Joshua Ambergris discovers a message embedded in our DNA that comes from the very dawn of humanity. A secret group known as the Order kill him rather than have it revealed. Ambergris's two assistants, Christian Madison and Grace Nguyen, set out to reconstruct the message and find the killers. There are engaging digressions into math and science, but too many shopworn plotlets intrude on the main business: a bomb is set to explode; a ninja-like assassin lurks; power struggles wrack the Order; various stock characters appear and play out their agonizingly familiar roles. The writing abounds with clichés (Suddenly a shot rang out) and the final kicker is anything but. (Aug.)

From Booklist

First off, please be aware this is not a reissue of John Case's first novel, also titled The Genesis Code (1997), although there are similarities: both stories deal with genetics, DNA, and murder. Forrest's novel (his first) begins with the murder of a noted geneticist whose recent discovery of a coded message hidden inside human DNA will rock the world . . . if the scientist's killers allow it to be revealed. Standing between these nasty conspirators (part of an ancient, secret organization) and their goal to keep the DNA code under wraps is the murdered geneticist's protégé, Christian Madison, whose only hope of staying alive is to crack the code, break the ancient conspiracy, and stay one step ahead of the bad guys. Forrest incorporates a number of historical elements, such as the Mayans, Nostradamus, and the Sumerians. This is the sort of ambitious plot that James Rollins, say, in his Sigma Force novels, pulls off with panache. Forrest doesn't write with the same fevered excitement as Rollins, but he generates enough narrative thrust of his own to keep thriller fans panting. Pitt, David

4.0 out of 5 stars It really makes you think.., August 26, 2007
This review is from: The Genesis Code (Hardcover)
Wonderful book. As events unfold, you begin to wonder "What if..." Gives you alot to think about as well as being a darned good story. This book kept me glued from start to finish, I never put it down. I am already anticipating a rumored sequel or second book by Mr. Forrest. And the ARG that started on the author's web page is thought provoking as well. I have learned quite a bit for the research done for the ARG. A must have for your leisure reading library.

This review is from: The Genesis Code (Paperback)
If you're interrested in a fast-paced thriller, and like dealing with numbers, and science to solve the puzzle, then this is a good book for you. It is an easy, intelligent read, that might go over the head of some of the other reviewers. Its similar action to Digital Fortress: A Thriller by Dan Brown. A great first novel for a new author.

4.0 out of 5 stars interesting thriller, August 27, 2007
This review is from: The Genesis Code (Hardcover)
At Triad Genomics Biotech Company, Nobel Prize winner research geneticist Joshua Ambergris has discovered a coded text hidden in human DNA. He is euphoric with his find, but is a bit confused as to whom, why, and how they planted this as there had to be a previous more advanced race than humans of today. However, before he can announce to his peers what he has found, members of the ancient Order kill him as they want the DNA code kept secret.

Ambergris's two assistants, Christian Madison and Grace Nguyen, are stunned by his death; they vow to complete his last work as homage to the late great geneticist. However, the Order is taking no chances that Ambergris's lab rats will learn the truth so plan to kill them too.

The segments that focus on the math and science of coding and genetics are superb fascinating looks at DNA and a host of cryptic mythos. When the story line turns action thriller the tale feels too commonplace as this has been frequently done before. Likewise when the two heroes work on coding they seem human; when they dodge bombs and assassins they seem more like James Bond than scientists. Still overall THE GENESIS CODE is an interesting combining of the DNA code with a who's who of mystical coding.
