5.0 out of 5 stars Wholeheartedly recommended!
This book was an answer to prayer! Dr. Beechick looks at Genesis with such extraordinary depth, yet the book is clearly readable ( I found my 8 year old son reading it when it wasn't even assigned!) Excellent home school resource or unit of study for the family of faith.

2.0 out of 5 stars not a living book imo
I must admit that I expected too much of this book. It is recommended in many homeschooling curricula and supposedly for history. I am very disappointed. I am not a young earth Christian. But I am a Christian. So right off the bat there is a disconnect, admittedly. But I would wholeheartedly read a well done, living Biblical history. But this isn't it. This is all...

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Highly Recommended, March 16, 2000
This review is from: Genesis: Finding Our Roots (Hardcover)
Dr. Beechick has a no-nonsense way of explaining things that I'd previously wondered about. This book is a history book, the true early history of man, unashamed to read the Bible in a literal manner. And, if you want to know more, she includes an extensive annotated bibliography. This is a must-read for anyone who wants to teach ancient history from a Biblical perspective.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant home A Must for All Homeschoolers!, August 26, 2004

This review is from: Genesis: Finding Our Roots (Hardcover)
Dr. Ruth Beechick has provided an outstanding source to study the beginning of the world. Its easily comprehensible and a joy to read aloud. This book presents exceptional look at Genesis 1-11, integrating history with art, literature, and other disciplines. Convincing evidence shows that Adam and Noah were real men, and that God did send a world-wide flood.

If possible get this book and "Adam and His Kin" (also by Beechick) together. You'll be glad you did. It's been a highlight of our homeschool year.

I was sorry to finish these books however, we continued along this line with the full year unit "Ancient History: Adam to Messiah." (Page number readings from "Genesis: Finding Our Roots" and "Adam and His Kin" are suggested in lessons).

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful and thought-provoking, July 11, 2003
This review is from: Genesis: Finding Our Roots (Hardcover)
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, as it caused me to think of the Book of Genesis in a completely different way. I suppose I had never thought of who, in the earliest generations of man, would have still been alive during the events of other "famous" Bible events and people, nor how it all could fit together with the histories of ancient civilizations I've read about.

I was sorry to come to the end of the book, but glad that the author included an extensive bibliography, so I can further investigate, using some of her sources.

Ruth Beechick is an excellent writer. She has the insights of an academic in this book (as well as others), but is capable of writing to the young student as well as the adult. Highly recommended for unit study on ancient history or Bible study. Also a beautiful book, full of color photographs/graphics/fine art, and it is laid out well for the teacher.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource!, May 16, 2007
This review is from: Genesis: Finding Our Roots (Hardcover)
"Genesis: Finding Our Roots" provides an excellent overview of Sumerian culture, mythology, and linguistics with an emphasis on astronomy and biblical compatibility.

Dr. Beechick's research is top notch and fully documented. She demonstrates the absurdity of the word 'pre-historic' by showing that the origin accounts in the Bible DO pre-date those of ancient Sumer and Babylon.

A must read for anyone who is interested in accuracy and readability in the studies of ancient man.

As to David Moore's ignorant attack of Dr. Beechick's YEC credentials:

It's great to see someone defend YEC, but it is pathetic to witness someone bash a staunch scholar like Ruth Beechick.

Obviously, David Moore runs around amazon, cutting and pasting his diatribe wherever he suspects heresy, with no thought of reviewing something he actually read or caring about whom he is attacking.

Dr. Beechick warrants a great deal more respect as she corrects evolutionary time-lines (like datings of Egyptian Pharoahs) to conform to the more Biblically (and archeologically) accurate dates.

David Moore needs to read a little more and broadcast his ignorance a little less.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book promotes a literal 6 day creation, May 15, 2007

The reviewer below is very incorrect in his assessment! If you don't believe me, check out Ken Ham's "Answers in Genesis" website, where he promotes Ruth Beechick's "Finding our Roots."

Answers in Genesis is in support of the literal "6 day creation" belief, and so is Ruth Beechick. Ruth Beechick is not a theistic evolutionist. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

This is an excellent resource, Ruth Beechick is an excellent writer. Simple yet profound. I gained much from this book, and great resource for homeschoolers or anyone wanting to learn the truth.

This review is from: Genesis: Finding Our Roots (Hardcover)
This book is very interesting and quite well done. I think every believer should read and study this book. I've used it in my homeschool as a foundation for Bible study. It covers the begining of all things and a proper foundation is necessary.
