5.0 out of 5 stars Concise, current, and effective
This is a substantial update and revision of Ross's earlier work. In 30 pages, the book gives a concise explanation of a scientific perspective on the six creation days. One of its novelties is its description and justification of the point of view that the reader should take when interpreting the first chapter of Genesis. This point of view derives from a scientific...

This review is from: Genesis One: A Scientific Perspective (Paperback)
This is a substantial update and revision of Ross's earlier work. In 30 pages, the book gives a concise explanation of a scientific perspective on the six creation days. One of its novelties is its description and justification of the point of view that the reader should take when interpreting the first chapter of Genesis. This point of view derives from a scientific method that Ross shows to be also a Biblical method of interpretation that is widely used by scholars but not widely known as a method common also to science.

The scientific statements in the booklet are based on findings commonly known and accepted among the scientific community. Unlike some creationists, Hugh Ross holds that the undisputed factual claims of the peer-reviewed scientific journals are reasonably reliable, and that Biblical texts properly interpreted will correspond to true scientific findings: The Creator doesn't lie to us in the Biblical text or in the obvious facts of the created universe.

If you're looking for a concise, easy-to-read explanation of why and how the book of Genesis corresponds well to the most current scientific findings in cosmology and the life sciences, "Genesis One: A Scientific Perspective" is an excellent tool.

The booklet is also ideal for small-group studies and for individuals who don't have time for long scientific treatises but who still want a rigorous modern scientific view on the Genesis account. It's also an excellent resource for journalists or others who want to see a creation science perspective that's refreshingly different from (and superior to) what is typically portrayed in the media.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent starter to Hugh Ross philosophy, January 30, 2009

This review is from: Genesis One: A Scientific Perspective (Paperback)
Don't mistake it - this book is small, but packed with mighty perspective on the Genesis stories. This book is a great starter into Hugh Ross' philosophy of mixing science with religion. For all those looking for a way to reconcile the discoveries made by scientists with the seemingly anti-science Christian faith, Hugh Ross is there to guide you. He makes no apologies to the scientific community for being a faith-filled apologist, nor does he make any apologies to the Christian communities for being a man of science. He straddles both worlds effortlessly and shares his secret to success in all his books. The pamplet-sized book is an excellent beginner's foray into the melding of scientific discovery with Christian faith-stories. A must-read for anyone of a scientific bent who wishes a stronger faith in the creation story offered by the Bible.

Buy this booklet only if you believe in the Long Creation Days theory or if you are curious for the support behind the Long Days theory.
If you don't believe the long days theory then don't waste your money, the entire booklet rests upon the premise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short Treatise on a Scientist/Believer Interprets Genesis One, December 5, 2009
This review is from: Genesis One: A Scientific Perspective (Paperback)
Author Dr. Hugh Ross PhD, is an astronomer and physicist who is also a Christian believer. He wrote this booklet to explain from a scientific point of view the credibility of Genesis One, and how modern science supports Genesis One.

Ross explains how the earth and universe were formed from a scientific point of view, (Big Bang, expanding universe, coalesence of gasses and debris into stars and planetary systems over billions of years), and how the Genesis One account is fully supported from a scientific perspective. "Perspective" in the key word in this book, as one's interpretation of Genesis One depends on one's perspective. Ross expounds on this concept, stating that Genesis One makes perfect sense if one interprets it with the proper perspective. For instance, the perspective on Genesis 1:1 is from one looking at the entire universe. Genesis 1:2 is best understood from the perspective of one looking down on the earth from the heavens. Finally, in Genesis 1:3, when God states "Let there be light", the perspective switches from the heavenly realm to experiencing light for the first time while on the surface of the earth. The remaining passages in Genesis One are from the perspective of someone on earth. When interpreted in this manner, the chronology of Genesis One makes logical sense from a scientific point of view, as Ross explains.

Ross makes the point that the earth and universe could not form from random processes alone. He posits that God, the Creator, carefully and lovingly guided the parameters of the Big Bang, how the moon was made through guided natural processes, and how life formed on earth and developed over millions of years through a progressive creation process.

As a student of science and a Christian believer, I welcome an interpretation of Genesis One which melds current science knowledge with a logical and meaningful interpretation of Genesis. For if one cannot make logical sense of Genesis, the Book of Beginnings, the foundational book of the Bible, then one perhaps may also doubt the integrity of the books that follow. Ross's explanation of Genesis One melds science and belief.

Dr. Ross has authored other books which go into more detail on the Book of Genesis. For the interested reader, I recommend the following: The Genesis Question: Scientific Advances and the Accuracy of Genesis, The Genesis Question: Scientific Advances and the Accuracy of Genesis, and finally Who Was Adam?: A Creation Model Approach to the Origin of Man.

This review is from: Genesis One: A Scientific Perspective (Paperback)
Hugh Ross spends all 32 pages of GENESIS ONE: A SCIENTIFIC PERSPECTIVE trying to convince his readers that the Biblical Book of Genesis is a science text.

What were the odds that even the redoubtable Hugh Ross could produce such a volume of pure, unimpeachable scientific wisdom without duplicating so much as a single punctuation mark from all his other virtually-identical books on Creation Science? One in a trillion? One in 9.3 septillion? Surely, there ARE no odds at all! So, we see compelling evidence of Intelligent Design in the very existence of Hugh Ross. Mere natural processes could NEVER have produced such a paragon of scientific excellence. The existence of Hugh Ross can owe to nothing less than an act of SPECIAL CREATION. Talk about "Genesis One!" Isn't it abundantly clear why everybody who wasn't been born with his face on upside down acknowledges Ross as the Acme of Mankind? YOU should, too! Come on, now! What are you waiting for? Demonstrate you solidarity with 6 billion other Hugh Ross groupies by ATTACHING A COPY OF "GENESIS ONE" TO YOUR NASAL SEPTUM WITH AN INDUSTRIAL STAPLER! Do it today. Then everybody will see that YOUR design is intelligent also!
