3.0 out of 5 stars Not their best, December 16, 2002
This review is from: Genesis - The Way We Walk: Live in Concert (DVD)
If you like the Invisible Touch and We Can't Dance albums, get this DVD. If you want to hear anything else, you'll be disappointed. The best thing about this DVD is it's the entire concert and not something edited down (although early on in the tour they went into Mama from Hold On My Heart; that would've been a nice addition). If you like old Genesis, the Old Medley is great but only offers short bits and a hint of what those songs could sound like if played in their entirety. They played it early on to get it out of the way, then got back to the new stuff. And the commentary isn't very interesting. At one point a cel phone rings and you hear one side of a conversation. They could've at least stopped the commentary and started over at that point. And they just seem tired. If you want to see the band as they were right before they hit it really big and Phil Collins' solo career took off, get the Mama Tour video if you can find it. It's got the band at their best and most energetic, with a nice mix of old and new (at the time) songs. Hopefully it will come out on DVD someday, and with additional footage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing concert !, June 16, 2005
This review is from: Genesis - The Way We Walk: Live in Concert (DVD)
I love concerts on DVD and this is one of my favorite. The live performance by Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks with the participation of two talented musicians is stunning.

All songs are played with respect to the original recording. From oldies on a rock mix including a few hits from albums of the 70s with Peter Gabriel to great songs from the 80s like Invisible Touch, Home By The Sea, Tonight Tonight, and then new songs from that time (best of We Can't Dance album is played on the setlist, including No Son Of Mine, Driving The Last Spike, Fading Lights, Dreaming While You Sleep, etc.)

Please, old Genesis fan with no respect for Mr. Collins talents as a vocalist, listen to his interpretation of songs from Gabriel's time as lead vocal. It is very good ! Collins sings with a lot of emotions on this concert film. Same thing for the good playing by other musicians. With the good multi-angle feature, which is on of the best available on a live DVD, you can enjoy a global angle as well as individual performances. At least 2 angles are available at all time, well chosen for each song, and most of the songs offer 4 angles to choose from.

Extras could have been better, but 4 angles and a commentary track on a over-two-hour concert uses a lot of space. Still, there are a few interviews available. They consist of questions asked individually to the three members of the band.

My only complain is the sound recording on the DVD, which is not loud enough. You need a good amp to enjoy the maximum of it. With a good sound system and quite high quality headphones, I was satisfied. Picture is nice, and menus are great.

You can view a map of the stage from which you can see where are located cameras of different angles for different songs, so you know for example that # 3 on No Son Of Mine is spotted on Tony Banks playing keyboards.

Overall, if you like Genesis music, from Gabriel's period or newer songs, this is a terrific DVD to had to your collection with hours of viewing for a good price value.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you only by one genesis video this year, get this one., May 30, 1999
By A Customer
This is their best concert on video. They have released at least four concert videos from four consecutive tours, but this one blows them all away! Their performance of Dreaming While You Sleep is tremendous. I wish they included that one on the live cd. Also noteworthy are Home By The Sea, Tonight Tonight Tonight, and the old medley, which are excellent performances. It may get tiresome about halfway through Driving The Last Spike, but once you get past that song, there's no stopping. If you don't own any live Genesis videos yet, get this one first! you won't be sorry. It also has a 15 minute long history of the band and behind the scenes look at the I Can't Dance tour before the 140 minute concert starts. It is recorded at Earls Court in London, the same place where Pink Floyd's "Pulse" is filmed at.
