Excellent Historical Adventure About Genghis Khan,
By
This review is from: Genghis Khan and the Mongol Horde (Hardcover)
This is an outstanding book that I highly recommend to anyone who wants to read more then the plain dry history texts. Harold Lamb wrote a novel that is contextually accurate and describes events of the period. Of course, the conversations and detailed actions of the individuals are simply speculation, but the style in which they are written is lively and interesting. This is a thoroughly enjoyable book! If the reader has an understanding of the history of this period, and the events that were taking place, then so much the better!!

A great introduction to this little known emperor,

This review is from: Genghis Khan and the Mongol Horde (Hardcover)
My children and I found this book fascinating and full of factual information. There is little written at this level about this man who had such an influence in connecting the west with the east. Reading this interesting and detailed overview will make you want to read more. I couldn't disagree more with the negative editorial review.

This review is from: Genghis Khan and the Mongol Horde (Hardcover)
Genghis Khan and the Mongol Horde is a book by Harold Lamb about the rise of one of the greatest empires in history. It is a well written book with plenty of details. It is also informative and covers the subject well. Genghis Khan was one of the most successful rulers in history. His empire stretched from the pacific coast of China to Russia and the Middle East. Yet he started as a humble nomad moving from place to place in the icy steppe. Genghis Khan and the Mongol Horde covers all the fine points of the ruler's reign. It names all of his top advisers and his worst enemies. It gives details of military tactics and even the clothing of the period. It taught me new things about Asia and increased my knowledge of Genghis Khan. This book is a nonfiction book that is written like a novel. The writing is smooth, well put together, and engaging. It helps you imagine what life was like in the Mongol era. I recommend this book for older kids and younger teens. In all it is a great book.A kid's review, age 13 |
