1.0 out of 5 stars Spend a bit more and save yourself some grief, June 21, 2009
This review is from: Genie 1060 DirectLift 1/2-Horsepower AC Screw Drive Garage Door Opener (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is the second Genie garage door opener I have purchased and installed. The first was several years ago and it appears that the quality of construction has gone way down. Several bolts have failed, spectacularly. There are hex heads and bolts flying willy nilly around my garage. If you have the great misfortune of shopping for price instead of quality like I did, I recommend that you head to the local hardware store and replace every single nut and bolt.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sure not the old Genie I had, January 8, 2011
This review is from: Genie 1060 DirectLift 1/2-Horsepower AC Screw Drive Garage Door Opener (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased this garage door opener based on the previous one piece opener I had. I will agree with other reviewers that the directions on a giant sheet are miserable. Unless your a contrator with a portable drafting table your going to fumble with these for the entire install. I dont feel there ary any major issues with quality of equipment. You buy a product with a certain price point and you get that quality. You want to complain about bolts the we will open up american steel again and you can stop buying foreign crap at a low price. The major problem I have is the remote barely works more that 30 feet away. My building has aluminum siding and they said that is to fault. Tell that to the people at Chamberlin whos door opener works from 200 feet on the backside of the barn. I used the genie screw drive because my door is quite heavy. If I was going to do it again I probably would have went with another Chaberlin.

3.0 out of 5 stars DIY Instructions Are Abominable., August 1, 2010

Just bought and installed a Genie 2060 Direct Lift screwdrive from Lowes. It works, but the installation instructions are very poor.
Some instructions are in a book, the rest are on two sides of a huge 36"x24" foldout. Very difficult to find your place when referring back to them after performing a step. The illustrations all have English and Spanish text, crowded together in the same box. If I want Spanish text, I'll go to Mexico.

Genie needs to get a good technical writer with an appreciation of the customer to re-write. A single book with step by step instructions and illustrations would be far more preferable. DIYers, this is an all day job. Better still make it two half days ... more enjoyable.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible quality, October 24, 2011
This review is from: Genie 1060 DirectLift 1/2-Horsepower AC Screw Drive Garage Door Opener (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have had my genie screw drive for about 6 months now. I have had to work on it 3 times. The stops are cheap and don't work all the time. When the stop fails it strips the plastic gear inside the motor unit. I replaced it 3 times and then bought a cheap Chamberlain. The Chamberlain has internal stop adjustments which is much better. I will never have a Genie again
