Trick: Extra magnetic on carriage with this limit switch might solve problem,
By
This review is from: Genie Excelerator Close Limit Switch 33950S (Misc.)
I had a repair guy out to repair our 10 yr old Genie screw drive Excalerator unit. The door was not closing properly. The unit would travel down to ground (closed position) then bounce right back up. His diagnosis, after all the standard troubleshooting (door ok, sensors fine , spring tension correct...) was the close limit switch was broken. So easy solution: replace limit switch, right? Wrong (sort of!). We installed the new close limit switch but we still didnt fix the problem! Repairman thought I need to replace entire unit (bad board?). I thought about how this lil fella works and knew that the unit shut off when the wires to switch were shorted So the unit was able to process the correct signal if the switch was working. Well, the switch was fine. Turns out the magnet on the carriage was not strong enough to throw the switch as it passed. With the limit switch in the right position I simply attached a small magnet to the carriage with some electrical tape and, viola! Switch turns off unit perfectly and problem solved. Thought I would post this in case someone replacing the limit switch runs into this problem.
