Genie GLU-3 Screw Drive Garage Door Opener Lubricant

Pros:

- excellent lubricant - 3 tubes in the package.

Cons:

- 1/4 ounce tube isn't quite enough to grease the entire drive-screw of my Genie garage door opener, but 2 tubes is too much.

- absurdly over-priced at nearly $10 per ounce - ten times as much per ounce as Genie's Lubriplate 10 OZ Low Temp Lithium Garage Door Grease, which is $1 per ounce. See Customer Images for size comparison of tubes. (Grease from both products is white and has the same consistency; it seems to be the same grease.)

Other:

- previous versions of this product had black grease, but the last (and final) batch I bought was white.

Summary:

Although this is excellent lubricant, it's a terrible value. Buy the Lubriplate instead. Search Amazon on: Lubriplate

2.25 ounces - this is very expensive compared to the 10 oz. tube of low-temp garage door lubricant that Amazon sells. The other reviewer was right, three tubes barely leave a bead on my two garage doors while supposedly two tubes would have covered them. The screw needs a heavy coating to last a year.

This stuff works great. The people that are saying that there isn't enough grease in the tube fall into 1 of 2 categories:
1) they have a non-standard exceptionally long screw drive
2) they are putting on way too much

I ran a thin bead down the entire length of the of the screw drive and then turned around and ran a 2nd bead nearly all the way back down. There is plenty in here. And you get 3 tubes. There's no way you should need more than a tube-and-a-half if you're extra generous - I could have gotten away with less than 1 tube. The drive and new carriage (which is my I bought this in the first place, to lube it up after replacing my broken carriage) works great.

I used a non-Genie lube on my previous garage door opener and somehow ended up making the door operation worse than it had been, so I've been hesitant to mess with my latest opener. But I stumbled on this lube by accident while looking for something else on Amazon, and I've got to say, application was trivial and the door sounded better immediately. My wife even commented on it. Being able to buy these lubes in a 3 pack (to be used once a year per the package directions), where each tube covers one application, is perfect. And for the other reviewer who used all 3 tubes at once, I think that's how I got burned previously. It's possible to over-lube these mechanisms. I applied "sparingly" as directed on the packet and it worked out great for me.

Works great, applies easily. The door now operates more quietly than before. I was skeptical that such a small tube was enough to lubricate the entire screw, but it was exactly the correct amount.

Update 11/2010: As another reviewer mentioned, only 1-2 months after application all the hideous noises returned. Reapplication led to similar results. If you buy this, be prepared for frequent re-application at a high price. Rather than buying more, I will be trying the other Genie product mentioned by the other reviewer.

I followed directions on the tube and it worked as advertised. The clanking and banging stopped on the first try. I hope it lasts!

If you have a Genie garage door opener, you need this product. It's easy to use and solves the problem of that loud dry screech when you open the door.

i replaced the carriage for the screw drive, and then lubed it all up with this stufff. it makes about 1/3 the noise it used to, and works REAL good, worth every penny!

After applying one application of the Genie Glu3 tube the garage was very quiet again. This lasted about 3 weeks before it got noisy. This seems to be the case for old screw drive garages. If your garage is relatively new, one application will last for a longer time.

Three tubes included -- each one is just enough for one application. Worked fine for my needs.
