---------------Revised: Jan 2013--------------
I have upgraded my rating from 3 stars to 4 stars. After a year of use, the mouse is still functioning well and I have gotten used to its quarks. Its battery life is still excellent. It is quite helpful as an auxillary device (alongside another mouse), especially for power point. I still have to use another mouse to accomplish precision tasks which this mouse does not do well.

---------------Original Post--------------
Lacks full-functionality of a regular mouse.

DO NOT BE FOOLED. Silver buttons are NOT a left and right mouse button. Left silver button is a scroll lock.

Where is the left mouse button? You have to use the large black pad, which doubles as both a left mouse button and as a mouse tracking pad. This makes it difficult to click without changing the mouse's position. Double clicking? Only with a lot of practice and concentration... so if you need precision (menus...) this mouse will frustrate you continuously.

Shame that such a nice design is marginalized by cheap software and lack of user configurability. Close, but still so far away.

(How I would configure the device- I would (1) configure the left silver button to be a left mouse button, (2) assign the scroll button to the mouse pad, and (3) disable the drag feature... That would increase the functionality of the device.).

As it is now, it works well as a 2nd mouse... but not well enough to get rid of the other one.

Disadvantages:
-Low functionality of Main mouse button (Left click)
.....Single clicking repositions mouse
.....Double clicking... nearly impossible
-LOW positional accuracy of mouse pointer
-Inadequate software
.....

I read about this product and I thought "wow that sounds really cool!". The concept is great, but the execution could be better. My main complaint is that the sensor isn't precise enough, it is good at moving the mouse pointer medium distances, but if you are trying to move the pointer just a little bit it can be frustrating. Also if you have a large screen (25") like I do it takes two or three swipes to move from one side to the other side of the screen.

Recommendations:

If you are wanting a wireless mouse to use with presentations this would be a good (if somewhat expensive) choice it has at least a 12'+ range and it has a presentation mode for the buttons if you install the included software. It would also work ok as a mouse for a media center setup (there are cheaper options out there, but it would work). The main thing is that if you are looking for a wireless mouse for everyday use or to use as a substitute for the touch pad on your laptop this is not a good option.

Other thoughts:

Windows 7 recognized it and found drivers for it (it took about 3-5 min but it did find them). I tried to use it while playing a game (Half-life 2) and it stuttered. Other than the previously mentioned issues it worked smoothly otherwise.

All I was looking for was a better way to conceal my presentation mouse. I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only could I do that, but I could also control the mouse pointer from the tiny track pad! Better than I ever expected!!!!

I received a ring mouse as a gift and used it for a couple of months, at which time the dongle that plugs into the computer failed. Presumably it was an electrical short in the dongle, as it started getting VERY hot to the touch.

I tried to contact both the retailer and Genius US technical support. The retailer insisted that they could not help me and referred me to the Genius US tech support. US tech support NEVER answered the phone and I always got V-Mail when I called. I left 8 messages over 60 days (1 per week) and NEVER received a response.

So, watch out buying Genius products. If anything happens to your Genius product, it is not very likely that you will get it fixed or replaced. Now all I have is a very ugly, non-useful ring and a nice zippered case to store it in.

I for one will not buy or support another Genius product until they figure out how to do basic customer support and allow the retailers to "fix" problems.

I expected much too much from this. I was hoping for an actual mouse replacement but it functions but is not practical. Save your money.

I've been having wrist pain from using a mouse and bought this so I could keep in a more natural alignment. It does that well, and as an unexpected bonus it saves alot of motion when doing both keyboard and mouse work. It feels well made and is not too large, yet buttons are plenty large enough to access. The only problem is the wrong action is on each button. As it is, the main button is "options"(right-click), the left is "mode"(scrolling vs select) and the right is "select"(left-click).The button under the sensor should be "select" since you use that most often. It would save even more motion. The left and right buttons should be exchangeable in software(for left vs rt hand)or at least have "options" in the normal left-click position and the "mode" out of the way on the right. I really like the product but am taking off one star because of this.
