I bought this because I wanted a headphone to use when driving a small sports car on noisy pavement. The car doesn't suppress the road/tire noise as well as larger cars or trucks, and there is one highway (I-59 north of Houston) I drive a few times a year that is that really rough aggregate pavement and it's 3 hours of loud roar that almost drives me nuts by the time I exit. The headphones do a wonderful job of canceling that low frequency noise. I didn't really expect them to work as well based on the price, but figured I could return them if not happy, but I am very happy, they have solved my problem with the noisy pavement. I also wanted a headphone that didn't completely cover the ear so that I would be able to hear necessary sounds while driving and this one fits that bill as well. It's easy to test them, even with music playing in the background, turning the switch ON causes the low frequency parts of the music to fade away, but I can still hear any voices or normal sounds, only with the lowest part of the frequency spectrum missing. They don't cancel all noise (as the description explains, only the low frequencies). I didn't rate the sound quality because I haven't plugged them into anything to listen to them, the noise canceling works just fine without having them plugged in. I'll report on sound quality after I have a chance to test that.

Good NC headphone,

I had this pair and another Philips one. Even though this pair needs two batteries for NC function, it performs much better NC function than Philips. Love it!!
