Amazing Sound!,
By AR "AR" (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Genius SW-V2.1 1250 4-piece 36 watt gaming speaker system with hi-fi sound quality (Personal Computers)
I bought this system mainly because it looked pretty cool, and secondly because of the price. Frankly I was not expecting much out of it because of the price, but I was happily surprised when I received it and it practically blew my room mate out of the room! The sub woofer roars when turned all the way up, but unfortunately the satellites sound a little flat. The control base is really nice and looks great next to my computer, and the controls are very easy to use. The only real problem is the fact that the satellites are flat. I have mine hooked up with an old set of Altec Lansing speakers (running off a headphone cable splitter) and they fill in the sound nicely. Another nice thing about the system is the option for multiple inputs (ie DVD player R/W). Overall this is a great system for the price, and I would recommend it to anyone.

If you are looking for speakers for your computer then you can't do much better than this 2.1 Genius system. The highs and mids are pretty good and the bass is awesome. If you live in a dorm or an apartment you probably don't need anything louder than this--36 watts rms is plenty loud. I think the entry level 2.1 systems from Creative and Altec Lansing ($25-$30) put out about 12 watts. If you are considering one of those but are scared that they may lack some oomph, get this and you won't be disappointed.
The desk top control is very convenient once you find a spot for it on your desk. There is a 3.5 mm input jack on the back and two 3.5 mm cords are included (one for your computer and one for your mp3 player I presume). There are also two mic jacks (front and back), RCA inputs on the back, and a headphone jack on the front. There is no separate control for the subwoofer, but if you want to shut the subwoofer off, just turn the bass all the way down. This system also works very well as speakers for your MP3 player. If you are willing to forgo the convenience of an iPod specific docking system, you can get a much better sound out of this system for less money. I notice that the shipping weight is listed at 44 pounds. That must be a typo. This is a small system that weighs about ten pounds.

Speakers are of decent quality. About what you would expect for sub 50$ speakers. However, the sound quality from what I can tell is pretty dang good. Positioning is good. Starcraft 2 sounds pretty dang good. I'm no audiophile, but I can tell at 56kpbs from lossless. They get the job done. However one major annoyance.
The switch to turn on these speakers is on the BACK of the volume tower. Do you like reaching way in the back everytime you want to turn your speakers on and off? I HATE it. You have been warned. I just leave mine on all the time, cause its UBER annoying. Otherwise they are great, but certainly not perfect. Its got an extra audio input as well as headphone out. I haven't tested these, but they are nice features. The connections from the satellites are standard RCA, which is fantastic considering some very proprietary stuff I've seen with other speakers in this range, which makes things almost impossible (read impossble) to repair. (coughlogitechcough) Proceed accordingly.
