Speakers are of decent quality. About what you would expect for sub 50$ speakers. However, the sound quality from what I can tell is pretty dang good. Positioning is good. Starcraft 2 sounds pretty dang good. I'm no audiophile, but I can tell at 56kpbs from lossless. They get the job done. However one major annoyance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Sound!, August 25, 2008
This review is from: Genius SW-V2.1 1250 4-piece 36 watt gaming speaker system with hi-fi sound quality (Personal Computers)
I bought this system mainly because it looked pretty cool, and secondly because of the price. Frankly I was not expecting much out of it because of the price, but I was happily surprised when I received it and it practically blew my room mate out of the room! The sub woofer roars when turned all the way up, but unfortunately the satellites sound a little flat. The control base is really nice and looks great next to my computer, and the controls are very easy to use. The only real problem is the fact that the satellites are flat. I have mine hooked up with an old set of Altec Lansing speakers (running off a headphone cable splitter) and they fill in the sound nicely. Another nice thing about the system is the option for multiple inputs (ie DVD player R/W). Overall this is a great system for the price, and I would recommend it to anyone.

If you are looking for speakers for your computer then you can't do much better than this 2.1 Genius system. The highs and mids are pretty good and the bass is awesome. If you live in a dorm or an apartment you probably don't need anything louder than this--36 watts rms is plenty loud. I think the entry level 2.1 systems from Creative and Altec Lansing ($25-$30) put out about 12 watts. If you are considering one of those but are scared that they may lack some oomph, get this and you won't be disappointed.

The desk top control is very convenient once you find a spot for it on your desk. There is a 3.5 mm input jack on the back and two 3.5 mm cords are included (one for your computer and one for your mp3 player I presume). There are also two mic jacks (front and back), RCA inputs on the back, and a headphone jack on the front. There is no separate control for the subwoofer, but if you want to shut the subwoofer off, just turn the bass all the way down.

This system also works very well as speakers for your MP3 player. If you are willing to forgo the convenience of an iPod specific docking system, you can get a much better sound out of this system for less money.

I notice that the shipping weight is listed at 44 pounds. That must be a typo. This is a small system that weighs about ten pounds.

Starcraft 2 sounds pretty dang good. I'm no audiophile, but I can tell at 56kpbs from lossless. They get the job done. However one major annoyance.

The switch to turn on these speakers is on the BACK of the volume tower. Do you like reaching way in the back everytime you want to turn your speakers on and off? I HATE it. You have been warned. I just leave mine on all the time, cause its UBER annoying.
Otherwise they are great, but certainly not perfect.

Its got an extra audio input as well as headphone out. I haven't tested these, but they are nice features. The connections from the satellites are standard RCA, which is fantastic considering some very proprietary stuff I've seen with other speakers in this range, which makes things almost impossible (read impossble) to repair. (coughlogitechcough)

Proceed accordingly.

Nice sound and power but, had to return due to defective right channel. Replaced with Altec Lansing VS2421 that just rocks.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!! Incredible Sound Quality!, June 23, 2010

This is an excellent computer sound system. I'm a home studio hobby-ist who looks for great sound. This system has great sound for the price. It caught my 19 year old son's attention when he saw it, but when he heard it his mouth dropped open and he gave me one of those envious looks and said, "Where did you find this, and what did it cost?"

I replied, "Found it while researching sound systems. Before I tell you what I paid, you tell me what you think I paid." He gave it a closer look and said, "I'll bet it had to run at least $350."

"Really," I said, "well I'm glad I shopped around...It was less than $50 on Amazon for a brand new system." He literally fell into a chair and slumped down. Once he recovered we both had a good laugh.

Cudos to Amazon and Genius for making me look "with-it" in my son's eye - if only for a short time.

Thanks, Thomas

5.0 out of 5 stars can't do better for the price, November 4, 2010

I needed speakers to enhance watching movies on my laptop in bed, and to hook up to FM radio while falling asleep. I could not be more pleased with these.

I have had several 2.1 systems for various computers, from Logitech, Cyber Acoustics, etc. The Logitech are great, but at least twice the price and the subwoofer is both large and heavy. This set is just right, and the sound is impeccable.

After a much less expensive set at bedside, these were a most pleasant surprise: rich, full, clean sound; and supportive -- rather than thumpingly or boomingly intrusive -- bass. A separate control module gives bass and treble control and on/off switch in front and back. Haven't quite figure out why there are both.

Other reviewers have mentioned the very bright LED on the control module, and they are right. This one annoyance, only noticeable late at night, may be the only drawback to what may be, otherwise, the best set of speakers in its moderate price range.

These speakers perform really well for how much they cost plus they look good and are easy to install. I use them for music and games and so far I've had no problems. I would recommend them.

It has a really nice looking design. The high and midrange speaks sound good, but the sub woofer is a little weak. I like the head phone jack location along with the all the controls.

This system proved to be perfect for our garage gym. We cue up videos or music for our workouts and the system puts out decent sound with either output type. It doesn't hit like the large 5.1 Logitech system we have in the den, but we didn't pay the 5.1 surround price either.

It's a sturdy setup as well and has a solid feel to its components. We've only had it for a couple of months or so, but it is holding up fine playing music/video feeds with all three knobs cranked to near-max levels every day. If it can fill a garage (that has plates clanking and a treadmill humming along) with clean, distortion-free sound, it's enough for us.

The first system arrived with a satellite speaker missing (weird). When I contacted Amazon via email, their response was fast in coming and quite helpful. They immediately sent out another set and credited my return postage paid on the incomplete set. No hassles.

Good: Solid/Sturdy, very good sound for everyday use
Bad: Nothing yet
Etc.: Great service from Amazon when the product arrived missing a part

I was hoping that the sound on this system wouldn't be cheesy with just a little bit of bass and a little bit of treble, just enough to make me want more. But when it arrived and I hooked it up, the sound was incredible. I have it connected to my video game system selector and the XBOX 360 Start Up sounds nearly blew me away. (And no, it wasn't turned all the way up.) It's great for music and gives good bass for it, too. I think I may have been more impressed with the sound coming from my 360, though. The control unit is heavy and feels more expensive than this really is. The subwoofer is decently sized..not big enough to cause a space problem in your room but big enough to make your video games sound awesome. This is perfect for sitting by a computer or being set up in a bedroom. Five stars!
