About the Author


David Nersessian currently is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Law at Boston University School of Law, where he previously taught for many years as an adjunct faculty member. Prior to joining BU Law's faculty, he was Executive Director of Harvard Law School's Program on the Legal Profession. He earned his D. Phil in Law from Oxford University (St. Catherine's College), where his research concentrated in public international law, international criminal law and genocide. Prior to his doctoral work, Dr. Nersessian practiced for many years as a litigation attorney with large law firms in the United States after graduating magna cum laude from Boston University School of Law in 1995.

More About the Author

Dr. David Nersessian is Senior Lecturer and Assistant Dean - Global Programs at Boston University School of Management, and Lecturer in Law at Boston University School of Law. He earned his D Phil (PhD) in Law from Oxford University (St. Catherine's College), where his research concentrated in public international law and human rights. He earned his JD magna cum laude from Boston University School of Law in 1995 and graduated summa cum laude with a BS in Business Administration from Boston University School of Management in 1992.

Prior to his doctoral work, Dr. Nersessian practiced law for over six years with several large firms, representing clients in complex commercial disputes in state and federal courts, administrative proceedings, and private arbitrations throughout the United States. He later spent five years as the vice president and general counsel of an international educational nonprofit.

Dr. Nersessian has taught at Boston University School of Law since 2003, where he currently offers a seminar entitled Globalization of the Legal Profession. He previously taught courses in professional responsibility, human rights, international criminal law, and public international law. Prior to joining BU, he was Executive Director of Harvard Law School's Program on the Legal Profession. Before that he was a Supreme Court Fellow at the US Supreme Court, where he worked for the Chief Justice's chief of staff.

Dr. Nersessian's research concentrates on globalization, ethics, and risk, with a particular emphasis on ethical and litigation risk, the role of business lawyers and in-house counsel in human rights issues, and the impact of globalization on lawyers and other professionals. In addition to his work in globalization and ethics, he continues to write, speak and consult in the fields of public international law and human rights.
