5.0 out of 5 stars Superb overview, November 20, 2010

This book, together with Vladimir Dedijer's "The Yugoslav Auschwitz and the Vatican," forms the basis of my understanding of the Serbian genocide of 1941-1945. Edmond Paris makes a superb argument about the intimate involvement of the Catholic Church, going into all the details of how, e.g. Serbs who converted to Islam were straightaway killed, so that only conversion to Catholicism was a viable possibility. The details on Ustase-Bulgarian VMRO links and on Ustase incubation in Italy and Hungary before WWII are truly enlightening.

Interestingly, unlike many other books that focus on Jasenovac, this one gives it light and cursory treatment, which is perhaps appropriate. Its focus is on the overall genocide that took place all over Croatia, Bosnia, Herzegovina, and Srem. My main gripe with the text is that it ignores the Roma almost entirely. Perhaps this is because the author had focused on the religious aspect of things, in which two ethnoreligious groups (Orthodox Christians and Jews) were subjected to genocide by the political leaderships of another two (Catholics and Muslims), but he should have addressed this third victim group, the Roma, that was killed for racial reasons.

5.0 out of 5 stars No wonder this book is "out of print", November 21, 2006

This review is from: Genocide in satellite Croatia, 1941-1945: A record of racial and religious persecutions and massacres (Hardcover)
One of the great books written about Croatian genocide against Serbs and Vatican's involment in this holocaust. Over 250 catholic priests took part and even led Croats in bruttal extermination of Serbs from Croatia. This crime is hidden and remains hidden from public eyes since Vatican was so heavily and seriously involved. Will we ever see Avro Manhatan's book "Vatican's Holocaust" available on Amazon? I doubt it.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulously documented and worthy ....., October 17, 2010
A few years ago after the incessant news concerning the American debacle during the Bush Administration in the region that was promulgated over prior throughout Western media in the same manner as its twisting of factual specificity by the earlier Clinton Administration's NATO bombing of Kosovo for, in my opinion, misguided and corrupt Realpolitik agenda for which I must highly recommend Edwin Brock's "Media Cleansing" as well as Francisco Gil-White's Historical and Investigative Research HiRHome for further insightful works on Civil wars in the former Yugoslavia. That said, I give Edmond Paris 5 out of 5 for this work as it documents the rather unknown genocide in the Balkans that had gone on under the sights of both Italian Fascists and German Nazi Regimes by their puppet Ustashi pseudo-government run by a collection of misfits, extremists, murderers and criminals all under the watchful eye - and documented approval - of the highest order of the Catholic Church: Vatican. Of course most Catholics did not actively take part and cannot therefore be blamed however one does honor Paris' study for the apparent collusion of numerous high ranking Church officials who instigated and carried out mass genocide of the Serbian Orthodox, Jews and Gypsy Peoples along with, a very much guided, schema of forced mass conversion. The few voices within the Catholic Church hierarchy that dared speak out were soon condemned to concentration camps or silenced via dismissal. More knowledge today has uncovered a collection of avenues and accomplice between the Vatican and the smuggling of Nazi, Fascist and Ustashi officials - and masses of confiscated wealth - out of Allied Occupied Europe to safe havens in the Middle East; Syria and Egypt specifically, USA, Canada and South America - to which the Israeli's located and abducted Adolf Eichmann in 1959. Apparently, at the time of this writings publication, many of the top level Ustashi murderers were living well and active "Croatian Nationalist" lives within the United States, Canada and other Allied Nations, unlike many Nazi murderers with some thanks to the Allied Governments and the various Jewish organizations activities, these Ustashi murderers never stood trial or answered for their crimes against 750,000 dead Orthodox Christian Serbs, thousands of Jews and Gypsies. Also at the time of the publication the Vatican had yet to supply the Serbs or the World in general acknowledgment or apology of its collusion, crimes and accomplice whereby covering up the best that could be done by supplying the mass murderers elevation and promotions within Vatican/Catholic hierarchy. A very good read.
