Book Description

May 3, 2006 0815341385 978-0815341383 3

Covering molecular genetics from the basics through to genome expression and molecular phylogenetics, Genomes 3 is the latest edition of this pioneering textbook. Updated to incorporate the recent major advances, Genomes 3 is an invaluable companion for any undergraduate throughout their studies in molecular genetics.

Genomes 3 builds on the achievements of the previous two editions by putting genomes, rather than genes, at the centre of molecular genetics teaching. Recognising that molecular biology research was being driven more by genome sequencing and functional analysis than by research into genes, this approach has gathered momentum in recent years.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"...a broad appeal to all levels of biology undergraduates, even the more zoology inclined, who these days will be unable to avoid learning about molecules. However, even they will be happy with the substantial chapters on evolution, which is afforded considerably…"  The Times Higher Education

I bought this book for a graduate genome class. I will say that it was optional for the class but it is definitely written for the undergraduate level of genetics. If you are taking a graduate class with this book, think about taking something else or prepare to read many others books to fully understand the material. The book is great for a basic understanding. Lots of basic info and easy to read and understand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, December 12, 2007
This review is from: Genomes 3 (Paperback)
This is a great book! It takes some VERY difficult concepts and makes them much easier to understand. The way that the book is organized also provides a nice logical flow. Also, the CD that comes with the book has all of the figures and powerpoint slides of the figures on it, which makes for a nice study tool.

Easy to read and understand. Some of graduate students might feel it's undergraduate level, but if you are not going into genetics research this one is enough.
