5.0 out of 5 stars Bear facts
This is a great family movie with excellent actors and a good, clean storyline. Breath taking scenery as well - I recommend it highly for both children and adults.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good movie to watch
I enjoyed watching this movie very much. It wasn't as good as the first movie, but it was still good. The only problem I had was that Ben didn't appear as often in this movie. Other than that, it was very good and I reccommend it to anybody who likes animals or specifically bears.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good movie, but doesn't follow the book, February 28, 2008
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Gentle Ben: The Movie (DVD)
If I had never read or heard of the book by Walt Morey, I would say it was a really good movie. But knowing it is based on the book...and I read it...I would say the movie didn't follow the book accurately at all.
There are some good things about it. The actors are great, the plot is interesting and the scenery is nice. It is a good movie for ages 5 and up. There are some scary parts for under five, such as a brief moment were poachers and rangers draw guns, and Mark, the boy, falls into a pit were the bear is trapped. There are no swearwords or rough fights in this movie.
This movie has little in common with the book. It is supposedly based on the book Gentle Ben, but the movie has nothing in common except the bear, the boy, and Fog Benson. (The book setting is Alaska, not Oregon; there is no uncle involved; Fog keeps Ben all along; Ben was named after a squeaky old man named Ben; Mark is weak, pale and might suffer tuberculosis; Mark has lived in the Alaskan village all his life; his father is a fisherman, not a doctor who works for Doctors Without Borders; and Ben is a grizzly, not a black bear.) If you were expecting the movie to be based on the book, don't get it. If you have no idea about the book, or do not expect the movie to be the

Gentle Ben is a story I really enjoy! There is a very sensitive side to it, a plot, and a good outcome. I highly recommend this movie for anyone who is an animal lover, likes beautiful scenery, and enjoyes a good-hearted movie.

Got these movies because I am a fan of Gil Birmingham, but found out these movies are 'feel good' movies which is pretty rare these days so when I have a bad day I watch these and well feel better...

4.0 out of 5 stars Gentle Ben is an Entertaining Movie, August 20, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Gentle Ben: The Movie (DVD)
I found that Gentle Ben was an entertaining movie. I must say what I have read by another reviewer is not correct in the least.
This movie is in no way meant to go along with any book. It was an attempt to make a movie based on the 1950's TV Series Gentle Ben. If anyone saw & liked that series you will enjoy the movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Family Movie, January 15, 2011

This movie is based off a real book , but a warning to anyone who has read the book they are nothing alike. Dean Kane outdoes himself in this family saga as the Uncle who now is faced with raiseing his nephue instead of just babysitting for awhiel. And then along comes Ben this great big black bear that gives little Kody something to think about then his missing parents. And then they add in some poachers to the mix. Although a little preicatable it will soon become a family classic once watched.

2.0 out of 5 stars Gentle Ben, the movie, June 7, 2009
This review is from: Gentle Ben: The Movie (DVD)
This movie states that it is based on the book, Gentle Ben, by Walt Morey. It is VERY loosely based on that story. The movie tells a good story, but very little of it resembles the wonderful tale told in the book.

Gentle Ben is a fantastic movie for any age. What a fine family film indeed. Our Grandchildren are even hooked on Gentle Ben. It is full of suspense. The area it was filmed in is gorgeous.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gentle Ben: The Movie, June 1, 2007
This review is from: Gentle Ben: The Movie (DVD)
I loved this movie, Dean Cain is great. This is his element, it shows his kind and thoughtful side. They made two shows, and I wish they had continued, because they have excellent plots, they're exciting, and they touch on a number of different issues, it's not just about a bear!
